Roseland Court, a HC-One care home in Tregony, Cornwall, has been announced as the winners of the Care Home Hero (Team) award at the Care Heroes Awards 2020.

The judging panel chose Roseland Court Care Home as the winner of the Care Home Hero (Team) Category due to the care home pulling together as a team to protect their Residents and to support each other’s wellbeing during a time of crisis, which the team demonstrated during the pandemic. The team at Roseland Court Care Home has shown enormous dedication, bravery and self-sacrifice to ensure Residents are cared for and shielded, with some staff leaving their own families to move into the care home. They have provided amazing care during an emotional and challenging time to Colleagues, Residents and their loved ones.

The Care Heroes Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of health and social care teams during the coronavirus pandemic, recognising the dedication and bravery of an often unsung sector.

The winner of the Care Home Hero (Team) Award was announced in a virtual awards celebration event on Thursday 5th November 2020. It was announced in the virtual presentation that Roseland Court Care Home had been chosen by the judges as the winner due to the team being true heroes of the pandemic and expressed that they had worked with compassion and dedication to address the challenging loss of so many Residents from COVID-19. The judges felt it was exceptional that they offered this COVID-specific service at such potentially high personal risk and management in a very unknown environment.

Roseland Court was selected by a prestigious panel of judges including Professor Martin Green, CEO of Care England; Kathryn Smith, CEO of the Social Care Institute for Excellence; Vic Rayner, Executive Director of the National Care Forum; and Dr Jane Townson, CEO of United Kingdom Homecare Association.

James Tugendhat, HC-One’s Chief Executive Officer, said:

“We are delighted that Roseland Court Care Home has been chosen by the judging panel as the winner in the Care Home Hero (Team) category at the Care Heroes Award 2020. This is an amazing achievement, and I am so proud.

“Winning this prestigious award is a testament to the dedication the care home has demonstrated, even in the most challenging of times. Roseland Court Care Home has truly gone above and beyond to provide the kindest care to Residents living in the home, which has supported us in our mission to be the first-choice care provider in each of the communities that we serve.” Michelle Wray, Home Manager at Roseland Court Care Home, who nominated her exceptional team of Colleagues, commented:

“We are so overwhelmed and honoured to have won the Care Home Hero (Team) Award. I know just how hard my team has worked but to receive national recognition for the efforts we went to is humbling. I am thankful for HC-One's support and I am so proud of my Roseland Court team – not just for winning this award, but for how they stepped up and truly went above and beyond to support Residents during some of the most difficult days we have ever experienced.

“Our experience has brought closer together and we continue to be fully committed to caring for our Residents, keeping them safe throughout the winter, and ensuring they receive the very best care from the very best, award-winning team.”
