Beautiful reunion as indoor visits begin at Worthington Lake

On 8th March, indoor visits started Worthington Lake care home in Standish. Following the latest Government guidelines, residents at care homes are allowed one nominated family member to meet them in the home.

One of the first indoor visitors was Susan Southern, whose mum Irene has been at Worthington Lake for x years. The day for Irene’s visit was delightful, with Irene getting all dressed up and eagerly awaiting for her daughter’s arrival in our visiting room with a fresh bunch of flowers for her.

As Susan pulled the wrapping paper off the door and entered the room, carers watched on as Irene became overcome with emotion at the sight of her daughter in the same room as her.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the home as Irene was heard telling her daughter “Oh, I can hold your hand! Oh hello, love, I love you. Seeing you like this – it’s beautiful.”

“Holding Mum’s hand for the first time in 12 months was pure joy, a true gift. As Mum rightly put it, “We will remember this day forever!” I’m still beaming. Such a wonderful, precious moment shared with mum. Thank you to all the staff at Worthington Lake for making it so special.” – Susan Southern, Irene’s daughter

Visits has been happening at Worthington Lake care home since summer 2020 with The Rawsthorne Retreat, a specially-built lodge for safe visits with a Perspex screen dividing the resident and their loved ones.

But the new Government guidance means that Worthington Lake care home can now offer an alternative way for loved ones to be together during these trying times.

Whilst visitors will need to wear PPE during the visit (and have an LFT test beforehand) this means that loved ones will be able to hold hands for the first time in a long, long time – just like Irene and Susan.
