Prince William paid a visit to a care home in Edinburgh and was chatted up by 96-year-old Betty Magee who cheekily told him, “it’s customary in these parts to give a lady a kiss on the cheek”.
The Prince who visited Queen's Bay Lodge care home on Sunday, run by Crossreach, replied to Betty: “Oh, you are sweet. You’ll make me blush,” adding: “When the rules relax more, I will come back and give you a kiss on the cheek, Betty.”
After the visit was over, Betty said: “He is a bit of alright”.
Prince William is visiting Scotland as part of his new role as Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, which supports a range of social care programmes through its Social Care Council, operating under the name CrossReach.
CrossReach Services include care for older people, help with alcoholism, drug and mental health problems and assistance for homeless people and those with special learning needs.
Prince Williams was admonished by one of the care home staff for flirting with Betty and he replied: “I’m trying not to. I’m not sure who’s flirting more!” He spoke to other residents at the home including Margot MacKenzie, who showed him a photo of her grandson in a kilt.
He also spoke to staff at Queen's Bay Lodge, which lost 10 residents during the pandemic, saying: “I worry about the staff here and what you all had to put up with. But it is good you are all here talking.”
