The residents and care team at Belmont House Nursing Home in Sutton celebrated Philippines Independence Day, Carers Week and Pride Month today to celebrate our team and the amazing care they provide to our residents.
Philippines Independence Day
Around 30% of the Belmont House staff are Filipinos, including our home manager Arthur Tanare, deputy manager Mary Sallan and clinical lead Aries Castillo. We celebrated in true Filipino style, dancing and singing karaoke. We tasted many Filipino dishes including Lechon, Kaldereta, Lumpia, Pansit and mouth-watering desserts like Leche Flan and Turon.
Carers Week
As well as helping our team celebrate days that are close to their hearts and culture, we have also celebrate Carers week which is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities.
Our dedicated carers at Belmont House have always shown compassion and dedication, but over a very difficult year it has been even more important than ever.
The theme for this year’s carers week is making caring visible and valued. No other time has a theme seemed more accurate, no other time have carers, unpaid or paid been more visible than during the COVID pandemic and no other time have carers needed to be more valued than ever before.
Thank you carers for all of your continued support.
Pride Month
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.
At Belmont House, we welcome and celebrate people in lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities. This is something we as a home are very proud of. It’s no secret that members of our team are of the LGBTQ+ community and they are very open to discuss this. We have a strong community in Belmont House which enables individuals to flourish in an environment which values difference. We eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations between colleagues.
The CQC encourages care homes and care staff to consider the needs of LGBTQ+ people in planning and delivering services to residents. Person-centred care is the cornerstone of good equality practice and good care. At Belmont House, we communicate openly and sensitively about sexual orientation and identity. For each resident, we complete a detailed care plan and life history, as a routine part of delivering good quality, personalised care. We make no assumptions and there is no discrimination.
Our home is ran at an exceptionally high standard, Arthur leads the path in openly discussing orientation and identity, allowing for a welcoming and positive environment. And because of this, we are all very lucky to see things from a variety of perspectives, background and culture.
