Care home manager Geoff Crocker helped pay for the concert for residents on Thursday 7 October at The Forum in Bath to thank all care staff for their "tremendous” resilience.

Figures from the Office for National Statistics show there were 27.000 deaths in care homes in the UK during the first wave of COVID-19, but just 1,500 during the second wave.

Mr Crocker says this is because care home staff were very diligent about infection control and care.

Geoff Crocker, chair of Bristol Care Homes, which operates four care homes in Bristol, said care staff "need a lot of congratulation".

Sir Simon Rattle will lead the LSO in Martinu’s Rhapsody-Concerto for viola and Beethoven’s Symphony No 6, known as the ‘Pastoral’ with violist Antoine Tamestit.

Simon Rattle first appeared with the LSO in October 1977 at the age of 22. He conducted the orchestra at the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.

At the live-streamed event, Sir Simon Rattle will read out a message of thanks to care home staff.

The one-off special concert for all care homes is being staged by Bristol Beacon.

The event will be available for care homes to watch live or the day after.
