A cat has joined a care home in Cambridge after a resident kept looking out of the window and calling for a pet cat she used to have.
Fitzwilliam House Care Home now has a feline friend called Blue who is two-years-old.
A spokesperson for the home said: “Blue has beautiful grey/bluish fur so it’s safe to say that is probably where she got her name from. She is a very talkative cat, and you can often see her meowing to the residents, who make sure to talk back. Blue is also a big fan of attention, and spends a lot of time sitting on laps, which the people at the home absolutely adore.
“Margaret really loves cats and has enjoyed being in charge of Blue’s feedings in the morning. She used to have her own cats, so she has really enjoyed supporting Blue where she can.”
Pets are known to have health and mood boosting benefits and can help to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, relieve stress and improve mental health.
“Seniors who live with cats often feel mentally, emotionally and physically better because of it, and petting a cat can help you feel calm and reduce feelings of anxiety and loneliness. These were all very good reasons for inducting Blue into the Fitzwilliam family,” added the care home’s spokesperson.
