A care home in Sussex has been given a special award by Shaw Healthcare for being its highest rated care home on the UK’s leading reviews site, carehome.co.uk.
The award was presented by Davina Ludlow, a care consultant and former director of carehome.co.uk, to Warmere Court in Yapton as part of the Shaw Star Awards. The other finalists were The Hawthorns in Evesham and Thorndale in Kettering.
This is the third year running that Warmere Court has won the award. A spokesperson for Shaw Healthcare said: “The carehome.co.uk website is, for many people, the main source of information when looking for a care home for a loved one.
“Families find it comforting at a very emotional time, reading other people’s direct experiences of a care service.
“This is exactly why it is so important for us, at Shaw. I know that competition around each region is focused on homes striving to get to the top of the list so, this is always an exciting time.”
The national awards ceremony held in Gloucestershire also recognised four care workers for their outstanding commitment throughout the Covid-19 pandemic at a national awards ceremony held in Gloucestershire.
The Shaw Star Awards saw Wan Nowakowski, service manager and Sharon Matthews, a team leader from Deerswood Lodge in Crawley, Karla Bushby, a team leader at Hillside Lodge in Pulborough and Amber Porter, team leader at Warmere Court in Yapton all pick up an award.
Winner of the Outstanding Management Contribution award, Wan Nowakowski, manager of Deerswood Lodge said: “I am beyond thrilled Deerswood Lodge has come away with two out of the nine awards this evening. It is a testament to our hard work and a great reward to our staff after such a challenging time for us all.”
Ms Matthews, winner of Outstanding Service Contribution, said: “To receive this award as I mark my 10th anniversary at the home is just wonderful.
“I love coming to work and be able to fully contribute to Shaw’s values of wellness, happiness and kindness in all I do.”
Ms Bushby, winner of Outstanding Non-clinical Contribution, called it an “honour” to have received this award “considering the tough competition I faced from colleagues all across the UK”.
“I’ve worked for Shaw ever since I left college 12 years ago and I never looked back – helping ensure residents have the best quality of life is a huge passion of mine and something I’ll always cherish.”
'Making sure our residents get the best quality of care is something I am hugely passionate about'
The manager of Warmere Court, Mary Latter, praised Special Recognition award winner Amber Porter for changing her role to support the needs of the home during the pandemic, and despite experiencing a significant personal loss, she continued to dedicate herself to Warmere Court.
Ms Porter said: “I am delighted to have been recognised by my colleagues for this award. Although there have been tough times, making sure our residents get the best quality of care is something I am hugely passionate about.
“I love my job and this will definitely be a career highlight for me.”
Russell Brown, Shaw healthcare’s new chief executive said: “It was truly fantastic to have staff members across the UK come together to celebrate what has become such an important event in the Shaw calendar.
“Our hardworking and committed staff have rallied through the pandemic and shown immense determination and compassion for our residents, so this year’s event was even more special - especially with last years’ awards ceremony being cancelled.
“We’ve had a fantastic, high-quality group of finalists and this year has been particularly difficult to pick our winners. It is true to say that every member of the Shaw family is a winner.”
