A care worker in Buckinghamshire braved the pain when residents and colleagues waxed his hairy legs and gave him a buzzcut, raising over £800 for BBC Children in Need.
Sam Rae of Icknield Court in Princes Risborough initially set a fundraising target of £200 and then pledged to have his long hair cut off if the target was met.
As donations came in thick and fast, he was forced to endure both the wax and the buzzcut.
The hair removal was carried out by both residents and staff at the home and was also watched by friends and relatives via Zoom livestream.
The final amount donated reached £880, with Sam Rae saying: “I am so delighted. I thought that £200 was a good amount to get to but we managed to get there in just two days! To have raised over £800 is just incredible. Thank you to everyone who donated. And thanks to your donations, I am now feeling a bit colder than before!”
Icknield Court resident Joan Loosely, aged 102 said: “It suits him so much. He looks really different – much more grown up! We love him just the same though.”
