Birmingham Care Group charity were running older adults day centres before covid to avoid loneliness in the their local community.

Since the pandemic they could no longer continue with the elderly day centre so they started a small scale food bank. This has grown to a huge scale, highly successful foodbank with many volunteers. The foodbank is open three times per week plus the volunteers will deliver parcels if a person is unable to get to the centre. The group applied to Barchester Foundation for a grant and were lucky to be awarded a grant this year of £500.

Carrie Jahn, Customer Relationship Manager for Barchester healthcare said "Today we were given a warm welcome when we visited Birmingham Care Group charity. The volunteers there are incredible, they work so hard to support others with a foodbank which they have operated throughout the pandemic. They were recently awarded a £500 grant from Barchester's Charitable Foundation. The team at Edgbaston Beaumont took along a thank you gift bag for the volunteers. The foodbank is at 9 Kenyon Street, B18 6AR, they are open Tues Weds & Thurs 11-1pm, £2 & £5 parcels available. Some of the amazing volunteers also continue supporting their community by handing out food parcels for the homeless each week.
