Long-standing care workers at Signature care homes get holidays boosted to 30 days a year

Care workers who have worked for Signature Senior Lifestyle for 10 years or more are to get their holidays boosted to 30 days a year.

All its other care staff will also get an increase in their holiday entitlement, with all frontline team members on hourly rates contracts to receive 25 days of paid leave a year plus 8 days bank holiday, up from the industry standard of 20 days.

The £1.2 million a year investment comes following the launch of the ‘Wake Up To Better Benefits’ campaign by the care home provider.

Kay Cox, chief operating officer at Signature Senior Lifestyle, said: “We are delighted to announce this significant increase in the number of paid days leave our team members on hourly contracts will receive from 1 January 2022.

"At Signature Senior Lifestyle, we’re committed to being the provider of choice for individuals to develop rewarding and long-term careers in the sector. This uplift in paid leave is the latest example of this commitment in action, and one we hope will set a positive precedent for the wider sector to follow.

“The standard-beating increase is also a recognition of the efforts our team members on hourly contracts make in delivering exceptional care and support to our residents. Many of our team members have devoted several years of service to our residents, and we’re proud that 11 per cent of our colleagues on hourly rates will now be eligible for the full 30 days of paid leave.”

She added: “With 20 new care homes recently joining the Signature family, we’re thrilled to start this new chapter with this exciting announcement. Looking ahead, we’re excited to champion this and our other industry-leading benefits through our ‘Wake Up To Better Benefits’ campaign over the coming months.”

Three hundred and ten of Signature’s frontline colleagues are due to benefit from the full 10 days’ additional leave per year.

A further 2,017 team members across Signature’s 36 care homes will also see a boost in their annual paid leave by at least five days as soon as the new scheme is introduced in January.

Angie Biggs, head housekeeper at Signature at Camberley will be entitled to 30 days paid leave next year. She said: “I have worked for the company for over 21 years in different job roles and I am proud to be head housekeeper. I would just like to say thank you on behalf of my team, we all work very hard and always go the extra mile and it’s wonderful giving us extra time off, to spend with our family and friends, or relaxing.”

Jo Campbell, a resident at Signature at Rosebery Manor, said: “This will certainly give team members a boost and make them feel appreciated for the hard work they do every day. It is great news that Signature is doing this.”
