When Beryl Harman moved into a Gravesend care home as a resident last May, love was the last thing on her mind, but when fellow resident Peter Ambler moved in a few months later, they "gelled instantly".
When Ms Harman, 89, moved into in May 2021, she found it really “daunting” and struggled to cope with the "big change", until Mr Ambler, 90, a Royal Navy veteran moved into the care home in August.
The pair, who are both widowed, felt an instant connection, and immediately struck up a friendship.
Fast forward a few months and the pair who “gelled instantly” are very much a happy couple.
Ms Harman who is a former sequence dancer said: “It’s a big change moving into a care home, it was really daunting, so it has been lovely to find Peter.
“We just gelled instantly, and I think if you’re given a second chance to be happy you should take it.”
The happy couple spend all of their “time together” holding hands in the lounge and are often seen enjoying a joke together.
Mr Ambler said: “Since being with this lady, I’ve been happy. We spend all of our time together and do enjoy a kiss and a cuddle!”
Marriage is even on the cards for the happy couple.
Ms Harman said: “Well, at our age you’ve got to move quickly.”
Mr Ambler replied: “Get married? If I have to!”
Christine Hutchinson, general manager of Edward Moore House said: “It’s just so lovely to see Beryl and Peter together, you can clearly see they’ve made a real connection and it just shows, it’s never too late for love.”
