Dubbed Rolling Stones’ muse, Marianne Faithfull, the ex-girlfriend of the rock band’s frontman Sir Mick Jagger, has moved into a care home after battling with long Covid.
The 75-year-old, who was a 1960s 'it girl', has admitted her lungs never fully recovered after catching Covid-19 and being hospitalised for three weeks in April 2020. She also has memory loss and extreme tiredness as a result of the virus.
In hospital with Covid: ‘I nearly died'
Ms Faithfull, who was the girlfriend of Sir Mick from 1966-1970, has moved into the celebrity care home Denville Hall in West London to get support for her long Covid condition.
Ms Faithfull, whose songs include 'As Tears Go By', fears she may never sing again. Marianne Faithfull, speaking on the Broken Records podcast, talked about the prospect of not being able to sing and being "very close to death" after catching Covid.
“I got so ill, I nearly died. It’s taken me so long to recover. I’ve got what they call long-term Covid.
"I’ve been working on my singing, practicing singing with a friend of mine who plays guitar, because I am really frightened that I wouldn’t be able to sing anymore.
“I was in hospital… all I remember about it is that I was in a very, very dark place and I presume that was being very close to death.”
Marianne ‘at Denville Hall while she recovers’
A spokesman for Ms Faithfull said: “Marianne is staying at Denville Hall while she recovers from the ongoing effects of Covid.”
The care home supports professional actors and others who worked in the entertainment industry.
Former care home residents at Denville Hall include filmmaker Lord Richard Attenborough and Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.
Denville Halls offers short stays, residential care, nursing care, dementia care and end-of-life care to up to 40 people from the performing arts professions aged 65+.
The care home was rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission in a report published in February 2022.
A friend of Marianne Faithfull has reportedly told the Daily Mail that the singer was “adding a touch of glamour to the home”.
