In its report, the CQC commended Badminton Place care home's staff and stated they 'valued people and their life experiences, and they knew people extremely well. People who lived at Badminton Place received excellent care from a 'passionate and dedicated staff team'.

Staff told inspectors: "I love coming to work and doing my very best for people. I want to help people live life to the full" and "we always look at ways to make things better for people. I treat people with the highest of respect, because they deserve the best."

The inspectors also praised the leadership and staff in its ability to meet residents’ needs, describing it as “exceptional and distinctive”. The management team were, the report added, "determined and driven to deliver an outstanding service,” while staff knew residents “extremely well and understood their individual needs".

'What we have built is truly special'

Holly Caswell, general manager of Badminton Place Care Home at Cribbs Causeway, said: “Over the past 20 months I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside some amazing people, and what we have built is truly special.

“We have a growing staff team that is continuing to create a thriving community at Badminton Place, and without all of their support we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this ‘outstanding’ rating.

“Since opening, they have worked tirelessly to ensure that residents have the best experience possible. From food to free time to simply being able to live an independent lifestyle, we have put a lot of effort into making sure every resident feels a part of our community.

“The greatest reward for staff is seeing how much residents enjoy their time with us, but the ‘outstanding’ rating and recognition from the CQC is the icing on the cake!”

’It’s a massive relief to my family, I’m so happy here’

The CQC found the home was ‘exceptionally caring.’ Every person and relative the inspectors spoke with gave heartfelt comments throughout the inspection.

One person told inspectors: “I cannot believe the difference in my [relative] since they moved here. They treat them like a queen. Another relative of mine also lives here. I have never seen them so healthy and motivated. They have a lot of get up and go now. We came to visit today but they are off doing a keep fit session."

Resident, Maggie Townrow said: “Before I came to Badminton Place, I was dubious about living in a care home, but since I arrived I’m very happy. The amenities and facilities are excellent, and the staff and management do all they can to make the residents happy. It’s a massive relief to my family, I’m so happy here. The CQC award is very well deserved.”

'We are always laughing'

Inspectors also overheard staff and residents ‘joking’ after a keep fit session at the home. The person told the staff member: "I do like it that we have a laugh here. You have made my day".

One resident told inspectors: "What I like the most about living here is the staff. We have lots of fun which I enjoy. We are always laughing".

Andrew Winstanley, Berkley Care Group’s chief executive said: “This ‘outstanding’ award is testament to Holly and the whole Badminton Place team’s dedication to its residents. When it comes to residents’ experiences in our homes, Berkley’s focus is centred around attention to detail and ensuring our residents live well. Badminton Place is a shining example of this.

“We aim for the highest standards across all of our homes, and we are confident that our expanding portfolio of homes across the country will match the same high standards here at Badminton Place.”
