Understanding the care needs of an elderly relative or making the decision yourself that you require more help is both a difficult decision and an emotional one. Finding the right care home to move into when the time comes can also be hard. Our teams are here to guide and help you every step of the way.
Kathleen has always been an independent person, so she was looking for somewhere to stay that could look after her needs, but still be her own person. The first care home Kathleen stayed at, she felt was too quiet and small and it didn’t suit her personality, as she loves life and loud environments. After viewing Sundridge Court Care Home in Bromley and meeting the staff, she felt it clicked and she was able to be herself.
When asked how her experience of living at the home was, she said “It’s bad for my health… I keep getting fat from all the homemade food! I genuinely love it here and feel at home which is how it should feel”.
Sundridge Court provides many lovely spaces, from the welcoming conservatory to the dining room where you can entertain friends and family, as well as a packed schedule of events and activities. There are various places to go and explore in the surrounding areas including regular trips to local attractions. If residents prefer to spend one-on-one time with a member of the team, they can read the paper or pop to the shops. The Home has strong connections with the local community, many residents invite them to join in our activities at the Home or run their own sessions here.
Sundridge Court has 27 bedrooms over 3 floors, 27 with beautifully appointed ensuite bathrooms. Several rooms enjoy views over the delightful, secure, landscaped gardens. The home provides residential and nursing care on a permanent or respite basis.
Kathleen was born in Bromley-by-Bow to the sounds of the bow bells – so she is an official cockney! She was raised with four sisters and one brother and during the war started making clothes, as she felt she wasn’t academic, but she was good with her hands. She always made clothes for family members, and this resulted in her being a seamstress for over 50 years.
In 1968, Kathleen got married and moved to Elmstead Woods. She had a happy marriage, but never had any children of her own. Instead, she was happy to be an aunt and took parental responsibility for her nieces when their mum passed away. When Kathleen was widowed, shortly after she suffered a stroke and from then on, her whole world changed in an instant.
When she joined the Sundridge Court family, she was looking for support, but also to still enjoy life. Her nieces visit regularly, as they are only down the road and Kathleen gets involved in most activities, especially reminiscing and singing the old songs!
