The people living at St Fillans Care Home in Colchester enjoyed a wonderful visit from some furry friends recently. Blackwater Alpacas, a local Essex farm, brought some of their Pygmy goats to the home to meet the residents!
The people living at St Fillans have met Pygmy goats before, and always enjoy their company. The goats are surprisingly calm animals who love to be stroked, which everyone is of course very happy to oblige.
While no one would say no to a cute visit from these animals, the visits are especially beneficial for people living with dementia. Everyone is able to sit, chat and reminisce with their friends as they enjoy the feel of the goat’s soft fur, which makes for a great sensory and social activity.
The goats have also been shown to boost wellbeing! Many people in the home love interacting with these adorable animals as it creates an opportunity for some quiet and controlled time. There were smiles across the room as people put the goats on their laps, petting them gently and looking into their cute little eyes.
The event was a massive success, and everyone agreed that the visit from the goats was the best part of the day. They look forward to another visit from Blackwater Alpacas and Pygmy Goats in the future!
