Birthday banners and balloons were festooned around the home and the kitchen staff prepared a lovely afternoon tea for Ms Brown's family. Speaking after her party Ms Brown said: “Turning 102, I am starting to feel a little bit tired, but a tot of whisky every morning helps to keep me going and something I consider a secret to a long life.

“I want to thank all the staff members who helped to make the day very enjoyable for me and my family. “Usually, I am not someone who likes a fuss, but the party was just enough."

Ms Brown was born and raised in Rugeley along with her four brothers and three sisters. Her biggest passion is dancing and met her husband Stanley at a local dance. She says that the proudest moment in her life was when she married Stanley in June 1946.

Nina Varndell, activity coordinator said: “Liz is a very quiet and private person who doesn't even like having her photo taken.

“She did agree after some persuasion for me to take pictures of her birthday party.

“It was a lovely day, we created some great memories and she really enjoyed herself.

“She had her close family members such as her sister and brother-in-law as well as her niece.

“Everyone had a great time and we really enjoyed celebrating Liz’s party.”
