Five generations of women in the same family brought 'tears of joy' to 103-year-old Gwendoline thanks to a surprise visit to her care home from newborn great-great-granddaughter Harper.
Gwendoline, who lives at Chelmunds Court care home in Birmingham was introduced to the fifth generation of her family for the first time and became so overwhelmed, she started singing the same lullabies that her daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter had heard her sing to them.
‘Joy on her face was priceless’
With Covid restrictions in the last two years limiting families’ chances to get together, staff at the care home, operated by Runwood Homes, brought together Gwen, her daughter Margaret, granddaughter Julie, great-granddaughter Ellie and great-great-granddaughter Harper to create the surprise moment.
Margaret, Gwen’s daughter said: “Having us all together in one room was such an emotional experience and mum was so pleased to meet baby Harper.
“I can’t thank the team at Chelmunds Court enough for organising such a beautiful day. It was a very touching moment for us all.”
Julie Ball, the care home’s wellbeing lead, said: “When they walked into the room and introduced baby Harper, the joy on her face was priceless, and after years of restrictions and difficult times, this time together was needed and will be a moment they will never forget.
“It’s not often that you see five generations of family all together in one room and we know that Gwendoline was so pleased to have everybody back together.”
Chelmunds Court has 73 bedrooms and provides residential and dementia care.
Julie Ball added: “A huge thank you must go to everyone involved in making this reunion happen.”
