Susan Barrett, aged 66, has the debilitating condition multiple sclerosis, which requires her to have oxygen constantly administered to her.

Joanna Jankowska, the manager of Meadow House care home in Swaffham, Norfolk where Mrs Barrett lives, said when care workers heard about the resident's daughter's wedding, they became determined to get Mrs Barrett to the marriage ceremony.

Chef made wedding cake and mum gets a new dress

Joanna Jankowska said: “The nurses and carers kept her monitored, the chef made Diana a wedding cake and even our business administrator ordered Susan a new dress.

“Susan needed oxygen so we took it with us and made the impossible happen and the emotion meant so much.

“Susan is unable to speak, but you could see the emotion in her eye. We were delighted to make this happen.”

Staff left Meadow House care home at 12pm to take Mrs Barrett in time for her journey to the wedding ceremony.

When Diana Bowie walked in and spotted her mum Susan Barrett dressed in a new outfit at her wedding, the bride could not hold back her tears.

“I cried when I saw her, she looked so beautiful.

Meadow House in Swaffham, which is rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission, provides residential and nursing care to young physically disabled and elderly people living in Norfolk.

Meadow House, which is part of the Healthcare Homes group of 48 care homes in England, specialises in care for people with multiple sclerosis and neurological disorders.

Susan Barrett’s husband Mick, said: “I think what they have done is absolutely fantastic, at no expense to us, they brought Susan over to the wedding and even made the wedding cake - the staff at that place are brilliant, and I cannot fault Meadow Mouse.”

Earlier this year for MS Awareness Week (25 April–1 May), staff, residents and relatives raised almost £2,000 for research into multiple sclerosis (MS) through a week-long series of activities.

Meadow House organised activities for MS Awareness week which included a ‘Dunk the boss’ afternoon and a sponsored 65-mile virtual cycle ride to fellow care home Park House in Peterborough using fixed bikes in the care home's reception area.
