Two lady residents, Avril and Margaret, from local care home Fountains in Shirley enjoyed a memorable trip today to Planet Ice in Solihull.

Louise Crooks, Activities Coordinator at Fountains Care Home, worked hard to make the residents wish come true to take part in wheelchair ice skating. Louise and Joel who is a hospitality host at the home went on the ice with the residents and pushed their wheelchairs around the ice rink.

Avril thanked the team for taking her and giving her the opportunity to take part in something she has never done before, she said “I have had the best time, it has been truly amazing.” Margaret the other resident voiced “I have really enjoyed it”.

Louise thanked the lovely team at Planet Ice, “the staff were very helpful and supportive, they gave us tips how to get the wheelchairs on and off the ice. We are so grateful they helped us make this happen. We wrapped the ladies up warmly, we were on the ice for around 20 minutes then we enjoyed a hot drink before returning to Fountains. We have received further requests from other residents to go so we will be arranging further trips to Planet Ice on our mini bus.”
