At Overstone House, where the comfort and well-being of our residents is paramount, engaging activities that promote a sense of purpose and connection are essential. One such activity that has gained popularity for its many benefits is flower arranging.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, flower arranging offers a range of physical, emotional, and cognitive advantages that contribute to enhancing the quality of life for our residents.

Flower arranging provides a soothing and calming experience. The gentle act of selecting, cutting, and arranging blooms can help reduce stress and anxiety, and the vibrant colours, textures, and fragrances of the flowers create a multisensory experience that encourages relaxation and mindfulness.

Flower arranging also allows our residents to tap into their creative side. Choosing from a variety of flowers and arranging them in unique combinations allows for self-expression and a sense of accomplishment. This creative outlet can boost self-esteem and confidence.

Activities such as this are wonderful social occasions that brings residents together. Group sessions promote social interactions, they provide opportunities for meaningful conversations and the development of friendships.

We all enjoy this activity, it’s always a lot of fun, we laugh and joke as we stretch our creative muscles, creating vibrant centrepieces that will adorn our home, bringing the outside in.

Being able to connect with nature is important for our mental wellbeing and the flowers provide this connection; they allow residents who struggle with mobility to appreciate the beauty of the natural world up close.

We are aware that incorporating flower arranging into our activities will provide our residents with a multitude of benefits that enhance their emotional, mental, and physical well-being but ultimately, the reason that we do it is because it’s fun, lots of fun.
