The Spinney Care Home in Chingford has recently made a heartfelt wish come true for one of its cherished residents with a trip to the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.

Months of researching and planning went into creating a night to remember for Edna Sutton, 96, who had revealed her passion for the Proms through the care home’s ‘Make a Wish’ initiative.

Edna had dreamt of attending The Proms at the Royal Albert Hall since the Albert Hall Songbook Band visited the home last year.

Recognising the importance of fulfilling residents' dreams and creating meaningful experiences, Lifestyle Co-ordinator Julie Arnold embarked on a mission to make Edna's wish a truly bespoke experience through meticulous planning and conversations with Edna.

The Spinney, situated on Forest View, is an award-winning, 43-bed care home, where residents thrive in a compassionate and caring environment. The dedicated team of specialists offer residential, dementia and palliative care and are dementia and palliative care specialists.

On the day of the outing, Edna dressed in an elegant trouser suit and had an appointment at the home’s hair and beauty salon to make sure her hair and make-up were fitting with a once in a lifetime experience.

Bringing an air of glamour to The Spinney, Edna received a warm reception from friends and members of the team waiting to bid her a good evening in the home’s bistro area as she left to take a taxi with her escort and companion for the night, Leena Johnston from the Lifestyle team.

Edna chose to see Prom 12: Beethoven’s ‘Choral’ symphony, with its famous ‘Ode to Joy’ finale, was performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

Arriving back at the home in time for a night cap, Edna said: “I am still buzzing from the excitement with the music still ringing in my ears. It was a fantastic evening, one I will treasure forever.”
