Residents from Westwood Care Home, part of the Runwood Homes group, enjoyed a special outing earlier this week, visiting their local Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Station on the morning of the 9th of October. The visit offered residents a unique opportunity to meet the firefighters and learn more about their essential role in the community.

The morning began with a warm welcome from the fire station team, where residents and staff shared a cup of tea with the firefighters. This was followed by an exciting tour of the station, where they explored the various equipment used in emergency situations. The firefighters demonstrated how their equipment works, explaining the different protective kits they wear and showcasing the fire engines.

The event was an enriching experience for the residents, who were able to interact with the fire service personnel and learn more about the vital work they do. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service went above and beyond to ensure the visit was informative, enjoyable, and engaging for everyone involved.

Lifestyle Coordinators Natasha and Chloe, who organised the visit, emphasised the significance of such community activities:

"Bringing the residents into the community, especially for a visit to the fire station, is incredibly valuable. It strengthens community ties and offers our residents the chance to experience something different. We are grateful to Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue for their hospitality and warmth."

The visit not only brought joy to the residents but also reflected Westwood Care Home’s commitment to keeping its residents connected, active, and engaged with the local community.
