Queens Court Care Home was transformed into the heart of the East End last week as residents, families, and staff came together for an unforgettable Cockney Knees-Up. With traditional music, a spread of seafood delights, and a true community spirit, the afternoon was filled with laughter, nostalgia, and toe-tapping tunes.
The idea for the event stemmed from one of the residents, Phillip, who had been reminiscing about his love for ‘shellfish’. Understanding the importance of dietary safety, the team carefully checked allergies before making his wish a reality. With the green light to go ahead, Lifestyle Lead Liza Street went straight to the local wet fishmongers, K C Fisheries. With over 50 years of serving the community and Essex’s top restaurants, they provided a fantastic selection of seafood, complemented by freshly sourced soda bread.
Music was at the heart of the celebration, with Albert, who lives at the home, son Tony—taking on the role of DJ, spinning beloved East End classics that had residents and families singing along. Meanwhile, family members Michelle and Mick, kindly assisted with the bar and post-event clean-up, embodying the spirit of togetherness that made the afternoon so special.
The event received glowing feedback from the guests: Michelle, shared: "Lovely afternoon at Queens Court with my mum and some of the staff. Big thank you to the activities lady for organising this East End afternoon and to the manager for the great idea. Looking forward to the next event on Mother’s Day!" Julie, the niece of a resident, said: "I had a fantastic experience on Friday visiting my aunt. The Cockney event was brilliant—great choice of food, a trip down memory lane with a wonderful selection of music. Everyone was so friendly; it was a truly positive experience. Looking forward to many more!"
Reflecting on the success of the event, General Manager Daniela Caprioara said: "Seeing our residents and families come together, sharing stories and singing along to familiar tunes, was incredibly heart-warming. It’s events like these that make Queens Court feel like home."
Lifestyle Lead Liza Street added: "This was more than just an event—it was a celebration of our residents’ memories and traditions. The smiles on their faces as they tucked into their seafood and sang along to old classics made all the planning worthwhile."
With such a fantastic response, Queens Court Care Home is already looking forward to the next big celebration—Mother’s Day promises to be another heart-warming affair full of joy, connection, and special moments.
