Found her calling

When it comes to career progression, it’s safe to say that having found her calling, Chloe Duffield is definitely not hanging around.

That’s because in the space of just four years, Chloe has risen to become a Team Leader responsible for overseeing the care delivered to our residents at St John’s House.

Chloe originally started in housekeeping and also had a stint in the kitchen before she realised it was her destiny to become a carer.

“I was a little nervous when I first started so Jayne, our Home Comforts Manager, suggested I start in housekeeping until I found my feet and everything started from there,” explains Chloe.

“I became a Carer, then a Senior Carer and now a Team Leader so it couldn’t have worked out any better for me.”

As Team Leader, Chloe “runs the floor”, overseeing the work of five carers on shift at the time and carrying out other tasks such as giving our medication to residents and liaising with external healthcare professions, such as GPs and Nurses.

“I really enjoy what I do and working at St John’s in particular as it’s a very homely environment,” she says.

“Building relationships with the residents and promoting their independence as much as possible is the best thing about the job, but there are so many other good things too.

“It’s also nice having the opportunity to build a rapport with residents’ family members. I enjoy having the opportunity to join in activities with the residents as it allows me to build a better relationship with the residents and find out more about their interests and pasts.”

Chloe’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed as she was the first recipient of our new-look employee of the month award for January.

“It felt really good to know that people appreciate me but it’s a real team effort at St John’s,” she adds.

“I would recommend this job to anyone. If people are nervous like I was, it helps build your confidence and there is a great chance to progress your career too.”

Outside of work, Chloe helps to care for her grandmother and she also enjoys going on long walks in the countryside with her dog.
