From karaoke nights and West End shows to saying "yes" to her fiancé, Leanne’s story shows how the right care and support can open the door to confidence, connection, and love.

In this blog, she shares how our care has helped her gain confidence, enjoy new experiences, and even find love.

One of the ways Leanne has grown in confidence is through her role as a Service User Ambassador. As an ambassador, she takes on roles in the home and attends Service User Council meetings with other ambassadors to help voice opinions of the people in her home.

Together, the Service User Council are involved in decisions to improve care for others.

Being an ambassador has played a major part in Leanne’s personal growth, she shares what it means to her to be an ambassador.

“Early on, one of the Activities Coordinators asked if I’d like to become a Service User Ambassador. I decided to give it a go - and I’m so glad I did!

“I love being part of something where I can voice my opinions, attend meetings and socialise with others. It’s boosted my confidence and helped me feel even more at home.”

Leanne’s growing confidence has opened doors to more social activities outside the home.

With support from the team at Quarryfields, she now attends DICE - a non-profit organisation that runs activities and events for disabled people - twice a week.

There, she continues to build independence, meet new people, and try new things.

“Three years ago, I started going to DICE, a group that organises activities for disabled people.

“With the support of the staff at Quarryfields, I go twice a week and take part in everything from drama and singing, to bingo and day trips.

“Some of my favourite experiences include a night out at Biscuit Billy’s in Doncaster, a trip to see ‘The Lion King’ on the West End, and volunteering in the DICE tuck shop every Wednesday - followed by a round of karaoke, of course!

“This year, I’m excited for a day trip to Skegness.”

One of the most life-changing things to come from the past year is growing closer to her now fiancé, Jacob, through attending DICE.

With support from the Quarryfields team, she’s able to enjoy meaningful moments with him - including going on dates and spending Christmas at his family home.

“One of the best things about DICE is that it helped me meet Jacob, who’s now my fiancé!

“We became friends over a year ago and have loved spending time together ever since.

“He proposed at one of the DICE events, with a ring he picked out with his mum. It was a quiet moment, and I was completely surprised!

“With the support of Quarryfields, we’ve been able to go on dates, attend events, and even spend Christmas together at his family home.”

“I’m so grateful for everything that’s helped me live life to the full - from gaining confidence as an ambassador to finding love with Jacob.”
