A Mother’s Day surprise at Castleford Lodge!

At Castleford Lodge Nursing Home, Jeanie and Sarah enjoyed a special Mother’s Day surprise, thanks to the fantastic team at our West Yorkshire care home.

Jeanie Golden has lived at Castleford Lodge for over a year and a half, and when her daughter Sarah became Home Manager, the team decided to celebrate the pair in style. Ellie Scott, Clinical Deputy, masterminded the surprise. “We wanted to create a memorable experience for both Jeanie and Sarah. This was Sarah’s first Mother’s Day working here, and we wanted to show our appreciation for the difference she’s made. Donna and Shelly were a huge help—I couldn’t have done it without them!”

Working with the catering and activities teams, Ellie planned an intimate afternoon tea, including Jeanie’s favourite dish: fish and chips!

Jeanie was thrilled with the day: “What a lovely time with my daughter! The team even remembered that fish and chips are my favourite and served it alongside a wonderful afternoon tea.”

Ellie explained, “At Castleford Lodge, we pride ourselves on individualised care. Jeanie is very close with her family, so it made sense to help her celebrate Mother’s Day with Sarah. We believe that Mother’s Day shouldn’t stop just because someone is in a care home. We support these special moments to help residents continue enjoying what they love.”

Sarah, who became Home Manager in December 2024, was completely surprised by the event. “I can’t believe the team went to all this trouble for my mum and me. I’m still in disbelief that they managed to keep it a secret!”

The surprise for Jeanie and Sarah is just one example of how Castleford Lodge truly cares for its residents. We can’t thank Ellie and the team enough for their dedication and support!
