Celebrating World Kindness Day the Care UK way

At Care UK supporting colleagues who raise awareness for local and national causes through their fundraising efforts is a top priority. Care UK’s matched funding scheme meets colleagues’ fundraising efforts up to £1,000 for UK-based charities. This ensures that we support charities in the areas in which our homes operate, as well as donating to national causes. In 2024, colleagues raised and matched over £31,000 for charities close to their hearts.

For World Kindness Day, we are looking at some of the fundraising that colleagues took part in across the last year.

Emma Blackburn, who has worked as a night carer since 2017 at Prince George House in Ipswich, hosted an annual charity bike ride in memory of her late father, Gordon, since his passing in 2018. The ride is always undertaken in celebration of his birthday and brings together his family and local bikers. The Blackburn family’s charity of choice continues to be Felixstowe Coast Patrol & Rescue, due to the charity’s alignment with Gordon’s values and passions: duty of care, his ties to Levington, and his love for all things with petrol engines. After raising £750 for the charity, Emma’s donation was matched by Care UK’s matched funding scheme, making the total donation £1,500.

Another great fundraising story focuses on three of our colleagues from the recruitment team – senior resourcing advisor Kieran McVey, resourcing advisor Michael Pardoe and recruitment manager Jack Robinson – who decided to raise funds for Movember. Movember work to support men who have experienced mental health challenges, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Since launching their cause in 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world. The trio’s donation was matched by Care UK, meaning that their total was £1,776.00.

The team at Hartismere Place in Eye, Cambridgeshire, are one of the many homes who regularly donate to charity. By working together, and involving residents, their relatives, and the local community, they’ve been able to fundraise for some crucial causes such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Waveny Foodbank. Over the past year, Hartismere Place colleagues raised a total of £761.58 for local charities, and with Care UK’s matched funding scheme, they donated a total of £1,523.16.
