Anne, who lives at Okeley Care Home, has had a lifelong passion for sport.

Once an avid swimmer and runner, Anne always enjoyed an active lifestyle. From running marathons to competing in swimming races, Anne did it all! However, as the years went by, Anne fell out of touch with her once beloved hobbies and stopped taking part in sporting events.

Knowing how much Anne enjoyed these pastimes, and the importance of maintaining an active schedule, the team wanted to find a way of reconnecting Anne with her love of sports!

After doing some research and learning about a dementia-friendly swimming session at a local leisure centre, the team knew this would be the perfect opportunity for Anne to get back in the water!

Anne may not be the swimmer she once was, but she fully embraced the opportunity to get back in the water. She thoroughly enjoyed practising her swimming strokes and the weightless feeling of being in the water. There was a smile on her face throughout the session, and it was clear that this trip to the leisure centre had been a great success!

After working up an appetite in the pool, Anne and the team visited the on-site café for a hot drink and a bite to eat. They spoke about their day at the leisure centre, and Anne said she had a brilliant time!

Being back in the pool has given Anne the confidence boost she needed to get back in touch with her life long love of swimming!
