HC-One care homes across the UK have been celebrating National Tea Party Day, which is celebrated on Monday, April 21. Special themed tea parties were held at a range of HC-One care homes across the country to highlight the social joys of sharing a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a chat with others.
At HC-One’s Capwell Grange Care Home in Luton, Bedfordshire, the team put on a Mad Hatter’s themed afternoon tea party for residents to enjoy. The dining room was decorated especially for the occasion with banners and woodland décor.
A beautiful afternoon tea spread was displayed on each table with a selection of cakes, scones and other delicacies for residents to choose from alongside a selection of teas to try, including green, black and chai tea, poured into fine China. Residents fully embraced the theme by accessorising their outfits to coincide with the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme by wearing eye-catching hats and rabbit ears.
After enjoying their scrumptious afternoon tea spread, residents and colleagues enjoyed getting their photos taken to remember the day using the Mad Hatters themed photo frame, featuring well-loved characters and objects from the classic Alice in Wonderland story.
Nicola Berry, HC-One’s Capwell Grange Care Home Senior Manager, said:
“Our residents really enjoyed our Mad Hatter’s themed tea party and indulging in the different types of tea, cakes, scones and other delicacies on offer. They enjoyed learning about tea etiquette and having a good catch up with each other.”
The team at HC-One’s Eastbourne House Care Home in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear, hosted a special High Tea event for the golfing friends of residents Dorothy MacFarlane, aged 93, and Gloria Hudspeth, aged 87, who both moved into Eastbourne House in February 2023. Dorothy and Gloria used to love to go play golf at Tynemouth Golf Club and enjoyed putting their golfing skills to the test with their friends. Dorothy and Gloria still enjoy playing a round of crazy golf at the home when the opportunity arises.
In total, 12 ladies enjoyed socialising whilst indulging in the High Tea spread arranged by Chef, Gary Neil and Receptionist, Elisha Jamieson. Chef Gary created an array of savoury treats, finger sandwiches and delicious cakes, perfectly presented on three-tier cake stands and served on bone China.
Dorothy and Gloria’s friends all commented that they thought the spread looked very impressive and that it was delicious.
Chef at HC-One’s Eastbourne House Care Home, Gary Neil, commented:
“It was my pleasure to create a spectacular High Tea spread for our residents Dorothy and Gloria along with their golfing friends to enjoy whilst catching up with each other. They all really enjoyed the selection of sweet and savoury treats to choose from and were very thankful for the experience.”
At HC-One’s Silverwood Care Home in Beeston, Nottingham, the team arranged and took resident, Mary Patterson, aged 93, who has been a resident at Silverwood since October 2023, to Colwick Hall Hotel to enjoy a special High Tea with two of her friends, Barbara Nemati and Barbara Jackson who also live at Silverwood Care Home.
Following finding out that Mary’s favourite pastime was to visit Colwick Hall Hotel with her family and friends for High Tea, the team secretly arranged a surprise for Mary to attend the magnificent Palladian style Georgian country house mansion with two of her closest friends for the afternoon treat.
Mary Patterson, resident at HC-One’s Silverwood Care Home, stated:
“Thank you so much to the team at Silverwood Care Home for arranging a special surprise treat for me and my friends to visit one of my favourite places, Colwick Hall Hotel to reminisce and experience one of my favourite pastimes of enjoying High Tea.”
