FREE Day Centre Open House

To Support Dementia Action Week, the Devonshire are inviting family carers and a person living with dementia, to join us for a FREE Day Centre Open House, between 10am-1pm on Tuesday 20th May.

As well as an opportunity for a much-needed break and a chance to reconnect with your loved one in safe and secure environment, the purpose of this day will be to introduce ourselves and our dementia friendly surroundings, which are purposefully designed to spark reminiscence.

Our Day Centre was designed by a team of dementia specialists and was inspired by input from our Residents. Our Day Guests come here to have a fun day out, meet new people, enjoy the vintage inspired rooms or quiet time in our gardens. Our welcoming atmosphere helps a loved one to settle in and our dementia friendly activities are designed to spark social opportunities and moments of magic.

After an initial tour of everything from our Market Stand and the Devonshire Lyons Tea Room to our Gardens, we will be serving afternoon tea for you and your loved one, either inside or outside, depending on the unpredictable great British weather! Excited to meet all our visitors, we encourage you to ask lots of questions, as our specialist dementia care staff will be on hand.

Our Dementia experience will be a gentle recommendation for anyone interested in taking part. To better understand what it feels like to live with dementia and walk in their shoes. We use simulation techniques & technology, so that participants can gain additional understanding and empathy, as they become even more compassionate family carers. Small changes in care can make a huge difference in wellbeing.

Caring for a loved one living with dementia is an anxious and challenging time and a day centre can provide a break, support and professional staff. We can help with advice about the dementia journey and our different options. We’re here to Share the Care. For those of you who are unable to attend our Open Day, we would love to invite you to our very next FREE Singing Group and Coffee Morning, which runs every Wednesday between 10:30am-12:30pm. This weekly recurring event has been known to provide an ideal transition from a simple drop off for a couple of hours, to Day Care (9am-5pm, Monday-Friday)
