HC-One Scotland’s Catmoor House Care Home, in Scone, Perth, transformed into a hub of joy and cultural celebration after hosting a spectacular Sri Lankan New Year event.

The event, held on April 17, marked the traditional New Year celebrated by many Sinhalese people, a holiday rich with games, family gatherings, and delectable food. The Sri Lankan community at Catmoor House went all out, sharing their vibrant culture through traditional songs, mesmerising dances, and a feast of authentic flavours.

Catmoor House residents were enthralled, clapping and tapping their feet to the music, with some even joining in the dancing. The colourful traditional attire of the Sri Lankan community was a highlight, drawing praise from residents.

The festivities included lively games, such as a partner dance with balloons, sparking laughter and hilarity among participants. A lavish buffet featured an array of savoury and sweet Sri Lankan treats to provide residents a chance to savour new flavours.

A cocktail bar, manned by a trained Sri Lankan mixologist, served delightful cocktails and mocktails, which added to the festive spirit. Catmoor House colleagues embraced the celebration, wearing costumes and joining in the fun.

Elyssia Mills, HC-One Scotland’s Catmoor House Wellbeing Coordinator, said:

“Sri Lankan New Year is a vibrant celebration of unity and cultural pride. We embraced this joyous occasion by bringing residents, colleagues, and the community together to share traditional rituals, delicious foods like Kokis, and the warmth of togetherness to create cherished memories during this special time.”
