Dr Pete Calveley CEO of Barchester Healthcare celebrates 10 years at the helm of Barchester Healthcare.
Under Dr Pete Calveley’ s leadership, Barchester Healthcare has seen a significant increase in Good and Outstanding CQC ratings, as well as continued expansion. Originally formed with one home in 1993, Barchester had around 200 sites when Mr Calveley joined – and it’s now up to in excess of 260.
In an interview with Care Home Professional Magazine, Dr Pete Calveley said, It was important for me to focus on how we can deliver an even better quality of care for our residents and patients and how do we support our staff to do that. That was the focus then and remains the focus today. Everything we do is focused on one sole purpose and that is to provide a premium caring experience delivered by our great teams to those we care for.

When I first joined Barchester back in 2014, I saw huge potential in the company – there was so much that was already good about Barchester and I knew we could build on the solid foundations that the company already had and make Barchester even better. More than anything, I was impressed by the camaraderie and teamwork of everyone I met at Barchester, the sense of togetherness which I still see in all of our homes every time I visit.
We also have the fantastic work of Barchester’s Charitable Foundation where the purpose is to support people in society who are really struggling with loneliness and isolation, and help them connect or re-connect with community groups, which is so worthwhile.

Barchester’s Charitable Foundation had an exceptional year in 2023, achieving a donation milestone of £225k which enabled the charity to provide vital help to a staggering 160 small groups and charities, plus 87 individuals in one year alone. I am incredibly proud of the amount of people we are able to help through all our charitable endeavours and our ambition for the Foundation continues to grow each year.
