Gills Top care home hosts Spare Chair Sunday - Gills Top

Date: Sunday 29 Sep 2019

Organiser: Gills Top

Staff and residents at Anchor’s Gills Top in Scar Street have organised a fun day for residents and any guests over the age of 75 who want to join them for a free Sunday lunch on 29th September.

The event is part of the Spare Chair Sunday campaign run by charity Contact the Elderly which staff and residents from Anchor have supported over the years, including launching a charity single which got to number 17 in the indie charts and fundraising events to mark International Older People’s Day.

The guests will join everyone for Sunday lunch, and take part in the afternoon activities if they want, all free of charge.

Kirsty Francis, Manager of Gills Top, said “Sunday lunch is traditionally a time when families and friends get together for a laugh and a chat over a delicious meal.”

“For many older people living alone, Sundays can be a very lonely time of the week, so we wanted to invite them to join us for a fun-filled afternoon, starting with a lovely Sunday lunch followed by some activities the residents enjoy.”

“There has been lots of research showing how deadly loneliness can be so we want to do our bit to help older people living alone. We would like to hear from them or their families so we can organise for them to visit Gills Top and join in the fun.”

If you or someone you know would like to join residents at Gills Top for Sunday lunch, please call Manager Kirsty Francis on 0800 0854318. Places are limited and will be filled on a first-come-first-serve basis.
