View Full Details of Y Garreg-LwydI would highly recommend Y Garreg-Lwyd Care Home. My father moved in there in July. After a turbulent ten months of hospitals and other care homes, I am delighted to say that, at last, we have found the perfect place for him. I cannot praise the manager and her staff highly enough. They all go above and beyond to make my dad feel listened to, cared for and treated with respect and kindness. The food is good, the home is comfortable and quiet and it is such a relief, in a time of great stress for my dad and us as a family, to finally have a peace of mind that he is happy and in excellent hands.
My mother-in-law aged 92 with Alzheimer's has happily lived at Y Garreg-Lwyd for nearly two years, following five years of being cared for in our family home. She has a good quality of life in a wonderful 'home from home' environment. She loves the fresh home-cooked meals and enjoys the outstanding personal care, companionship and banter with all the staff. The lounges, dining room and her bedroom look out over a well-tended garden with views of rural Carmarthenshire beyond. Having visited several care homes and dementia facilities in the county, Y Garreg-Lwyd knocked spots off the others in terms of small size, 'home from home' atmosphere, competent and friendly staff and value for money. A huge thank you to all at Y Garreg-Lwyd.
My uncle appears happy and stable, he is well looked after, seems to enjoy the food, is comfortable and gets on well with the staff. I find the staff and management very approachable, pleasant and helpful and so in general I am happy about the care he is receiving. I would like to see the staff wear a small name tag to make it easier to remember who is who!
My mother is very happy at Y Garreg-Lwyd which makes me happy. I am happy overall with the service and care. I feel a better choice of meals should be offered - a day in advance. The home needs in my mind to have more activities organised although I accept that with the ages of the residents many may not welcome activities.
My aunt was a resident here for nearly seven years. She entered having already visited relatives and it was near her own family and friends. She knew many of the original staff and got on better with some than others. Having been a prominent member of many societies she did find times when she would be lonely. Activities to her taste were few and far between, but incontinence and aching limbs limited her confidence in leaving her room. She benefited from knowing other residents more mobile who visited her and of course several friends and relatives. Not being acquainted with many other care homes I am not qualified to really compare with other homes, but I believe overall she was reasonably content.
