View Full Details of Abbey Lodge Residential Care HomeMother was looked after by a very varing and professional staff, nothing was too much bother. She really enjoyed her outings, activities and entertainment during the day. Towards the end, mother received excellent care, and we could not have asked for a better send-off.
We recently visited my Mum with one of our elderly relatives. She was very impressed with the care at Abbey Lodge. She has seen many care homes recently, but none of them came close to Abbey Lodge. She commented on how happy and healthy my Mum looked, probably the most relaxed since her stroke, 4 years ago. According to her, the best indictor of a well run residential home is that it doesn't matter when you visit, the residents are always looked after. It is very true about Abbey Lodge, as I arrive unannounced and the place is always clean and tidy and the residents are happy and cared for. Extra thanks to the activities organiser: flower arrangements, painting, bingo. So much fun and creativity!
Abbey Lodge took my sister on somewhat reluctantly because of her high dependency needs and inability to do things for herself. They have nevertheless settled her into the best routine that can be devised for her and she and the family are pleased with the improved care she is receiving compared with her former situation.
I am leaving a negative but true review of my mums care. We placed my mum in Abbey Lodge because we trusted that they were able to care for her needs as she is suffering with Dementia. She was there for 6 weeks. It started okay, then she had a couple of occasions when she became agitated, upset and tried to get out of the care home. I believe she had an argument with one of the carers. Shortly after this the manager served notice for my mum to be moved elsewhere instead of waiting to see if her medication increased by the GP helped my mum to settle. Think twice about placing your loved ones with dementia in Abbey Lodge as we never know to what level they will decline. Abbey Lodge claim to cater for residents with mild to moderate dementia, tragically dementia does progress and I don't believe they are capable of caring for residents with moderate levels and possibly not even mild cases. I believe they are only suited to cope with respite, residential or elderly residents.
Moved my Dad into Abbey Lodge a few days ago after a traumatic few months for him. Abbey Lodge was the final home that we visited and within a few minutes we knew that it was the place for Dad, the management and staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Dad was shown his bright comfortable room with a fantastic sea view immediately and he was very happy indeed which was lovely to see.
Not knowing what to expect for two weeks in respite, I was pleasantly surprised. It was "heatwave" time, and the staff made every effort to make me comfortable. The bath was glorious!
After a long research and looking at care homes, we knew Abbey Lodge was the right place for my mum. It feels like "home". The staff are always happy, caring, smiling and ready to help. The manager and deputy manager are always ready to listen and assist with any enquiries. I am a person with high expectations, and I'm not the easiest to deal with, but Abbey Lodge is a wonderful place, and I am very satisfied with their service. My mother has settled quickly and has been living a great quality life with the right support.
Dad was looked after very well. Staff and management understand all his needs. Very patient, and nothing was too much trouble to ensure he was happy and content with his stay. Well looked after and all needs are catered for in a safe environment.
Mum has been at Abbey Lodge for just over a year and seems quite content. She settled in very well quite quickly. I am very happy with everything that is provided for her. Everyone is very helpful, kind, and polite, with a high level of understanding and communication back to the family. Thank you for all you do.
The staff at Abbey Lodge have actively made my mum a part of the regular 'family'. They took the time to get to know her so well and I have ever only observed kind and patient interactions with the residents. There is good food and daily activities plus a wide range of other things to engage with such as puzzles and reading. Thank you to all involved.
We found the care of our mum excellent. The staff were very patient and extremely kind, they tended quickly to her needs never complaining. They were so very kind to the relatives as well, exceptional. I have absolutely no complained about this care home and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
When admitted as an emergency into hospital, the home took over care at a moment's notice. So pleased with the care and facilities that when later in the year again had to go into hospital, there were no questions as to who would take over care until I could resume care myself.
My parents have a lovely twin room with a bathroom, it is cleaned everyday and always looks tidy. All the staff at Abbey Lodge are amazing, so kind and caring and nothing is too much trouble for them. My mum and dad feel very much at home and it's like one big family. There is always lots of crafting and regular entertainment in the lounge.
My mum initially stayed at Abbey Lodge for a period of two weeks for respite as she was struggling on her own. We were impressed with the caring attitude of the manager and assistant manager. After this period of respite, Mum was very happy and decided to stay, she finds all the staff very friendly and helpful. She is very well cared for and happy she is at Abbey Lodge.
The staff at Abbey Lodge are outstanding, nothing is too much trouble for any of them. They were always there if I needed a shoulder or a hug and you felt you could do this because of their sweet, caring natures. When my second mum died, the staff were there for her and me, I could not have asked for anything more. Thank you so much, Abbey Lodge staff.
I visit my mother regularly and always feel welcome. A very homely home. My mother loves her room and since moving in she seems to look very well. Her health has improved.
The staff here are very obliging, any request, if possible, is dealt with promptly.
We moved our mother into this attractive care home after becoming dissatisfied with the environment in her previous care home, in a nearby town. Abbey Lodge is very well managed and has some care staff who have worked there for decades. Staff appear happy. The most important thing in a care home for elderly people is the way residents are treated by the care staff. At Abbey Lodge, I am confident that interaction with residents is affectionate bordering on loving. Carers pay attention to safety and physical requirements such as moving and lifting residents with minimum upset. The home is well equipped. A creative and engaging activities manager works to keep residents entertained and stimulated five days out of seven. My mother loves the quizzes and enjoys the music, singing, crafts and activities based on traditional events. Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated. Food and nutritional management is very good.
Since my aunt has been in Abbey Lodge she has always received the care and attention needed for her condition. The staff have always been polite and friendly and informed regarding her care. Contact always made prior to any vaccines given or change in health situation.
My aunt had shingles in her head, face and eye which caused her a lot of pain. The staff called the doctor as the medication wasn't keeping the pain under control. They went above and beyond to manage her needs during this period of time. They kept the family informed and this was reassuring she was being supported and cared for.
