View Full Details of Kingston HouseMy wife has Alzheimer's and has been a resident of Kingston House for 12 months. I visit her several times a week as I live close by. The staff keep her clean and well-dressed. Her food and medicines are regularly provided and monitored. The staff are kind and respectful in dealing with her, and the other residents. Separate staff provide daily activities. Overall I feel they meet my wife's needs and provide the right amount of support.
Kingston House has been a wonderful place for my father since January 2024 when we needed care for him. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming, with total peace of mind that he is being looked after and all his needs met.
My father was a resident of Kingston House for a year, from December 2022 to December 2023. He was always treated with great care, kindness and respect. The staff quickly recognised that humour was a way of encouraging him to engage with them and to participate in the regular activities. He especially enjoyed visits from animals as he was brought up on a farm. We will always be grateful for the care he received and for the staff who went above and beyond to help him. Thank you.
My mum has been at Kingston House since July 2023 and her physical condition has improved considerably in that time. I’m sure she is very challenging at times but the staff are always very kind and patient with her and always keep me informed of any concerns with her health or behaviour. They are always on top of her needs and have managed to get her joining in with activities which she has always refused before. She has moved rooms a couple of times which has always been in her best interests. Recently it has become difficult when I try to leave and they have been fantastic at distracting my mum and making sure she has the minimal amount of distress.
Mum was trying out care homes with a view to a permanent placement. As part of this, she went into Kingston. During the two-week respite care, all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. She was made to feel very welcomed and enjoyed all of the activities provided. Her room was lovely. The food was provided to suit her dietary needs. The only thing she didn't like was the lift, which she felt was very small and dark but, because of the nature of the building, could not be larger.
Mum has been a resident of Kingston House since June 2022. She has always been well looked after and treated with respect. In January 2023, Mum got very ill and had to go to hospital. On her return to Kingston House, she had more needs as regards her care and the home made sure that they put everything in place to cover these needs. Kingston House has a very good activities schedule including trips outside of the home which Mum enjoys very much.
As a volunteer at this home, I see firsthand the dedication of the staff. Although my role is generally to support on trips out, these trips are part of a wide and varied activity programme that the home offers its residents. Many of the activities are targeted at individuals' interests as well as things that are of general interest.
I have previous knowledge of Kingston House from when, a couple of years ago, as a lay pastoral assistant, I and another LPA took fortnightly Holy Communion to those residents who requested it. I have always found the home to be efficient, well-run and secure and the residents I met all seemed to be very happy. I now pay a daily visit to a male resident who is a very dear friend and who will be 96 in June. He has been in the home for several months. The home is excellent and my only reservation is that where my friend's room is there is a very noisy kitchen next door and an office opposite the room with a door that is continually banging shut extremely loudly. Surely a door closer would be a better option. I must street that he, I and his family do not want him moved. He likes his room and the outlook. (With regard to Value for Money below, I am not family and have no idea how much he pays the home).
Our friend came to Kingston House in October and has settled so well because of the input of the excellent staff. Health issues have been addressed and there is an ongoing commitment to improve her eating, which had become a serious cause for concern whilst she still lived in her own home. Her ability to walk has greatly improved and we think that the confusion from which she suffered has been reduced. We do not live locally and the staff always phone us about any concerns so that, although we don’t see her every week, we are always fully up-to-date as regards her mental and physical health. We are full of gratitude to all the kind and thoughtful people who care for our friend.
My mother is a resident at Kingston House. She is looked after very well - it is a great reassurance to me to know that she is safe and in good hands. Everything is good - I'll highlight a couple of particularly good areas. 1. Communication is excellent. Someone calls me whenever there is anything to report, no matter how trivial it might seem. The staff want to get to know relatives and make me feel welcome when I visit Mum. 2. Access to medical care. The GP visits the home every week and will see any resident who needs help. The staff are able to get support from the GP at all other times. I have met the GP on several occasions - he is excellent. Mum seems content. She enjoys the food and was particularly pleased to find out that wine is sometimes served with meals. The fees seem very reasonable, particularly when compared to other homes. Mum is well looked after and I have peace of mind so it's worth every penny. Thank you Kingston House.
My brother moved into Kingston House in the middle of March 2023. It was a big decision, but from the moment I contacted Kingston House the team were brilliant in helping to smooth the transition and to welcome him into his new home. Since moving in the change in him has been remarkable. He enjoys the meals and has participated in activities and outings. He is looking forward to being able to sit out in the lovely gardens when the weather allows. The staff have been wonderful in helping him settle into his new home, through their quiet, understanding and professional approach. If I need to discuss anything relating to his care someone is always available to talk to and follow up with action if required. My brother's move to the care home was something that we all felt rather anxious about, particularly given a geographic move. I am pleased to say it has been successful, and in large part that is due to the high level of care given by the team at Kingston House.
My husband has been a resident of Lavender Lodge within the home since August 2020. In the early days, I was unable to visit him inside due to Covid restrictions and could not comment on the interior facilities. Since life returned to (almost) normal, I have been able to see inside and am very happy with what I’ve observed. The home is bright, clean and well-maintained. The staff are very kind (to both of us) and obviously really care for the residents, who are consulted about such details as the paint colours. Activities are many and varied and cater for different abilities and interests. There are relatives’ drop-in sessions at which we are encouraged to voice our views. The home has an excellent management team and is well-led (staff speak highly of them too). I highly recommend Kingston House.
I can not praise this wonderful home enough and we consider ourselves extremely lucky that my dad is a resident there. He has been at this amazing care home for 3 years. He suffers from dementia and the staff are absolutely brilliant with him. He will very often pace the corridors late at night, and sleep in till late morning, which is absolutely no problem for the staff, who always have time to speak to him, make him a cup of tea or something to eat! I can not thank the manager and the brilliant team there enough. They keep me informed on my dad's care with regular updates, the care and respect from all the staff is exceptional. They treat Dad with the utmost dignity.
A well-run home, where my mother is well cared for. There are good activities and outings which help the state of mind.
Our mother was 92 need started to need continuous care, the team at Kingston made an excellent impression during our selection process which has continued throughout the couple of months she has now resided at Kingston House. They have ensured the transition has been smooth and as least stressful for our mother and her children. Constant communication, as both her children live over 100 miles away, has ensured we are constantly aware of our mother's health and welfare. Highly recommended.
My mother spent 2 weeks in respite while I was on holiday. She was so well looked after by all the staff, she really enjoyed all the activities and the company of the residents. She would never hesitate to be in their care at any time in the future. Thank you to everybody involved.
Mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease almost three years ago and we managed to care for her at home throughout the pandemic, but needed help this summer as her illness had progressed beyond our capabilities. She moved into Kingston House and the love, care and support she has received from the fantastic team has made a hugely positive impact. As a result, Mum has settled in very well and is so much less anxious and distressed than she was a few months ago. I cannot commend the team at Kingston House enough, or express sufficiently the gratitude the whole family feel. Kingston House has provided a safe, loving and supportive place for Mum to live and us to visit.
Kingston House continues to provide my mum with excellent care and is a safe friendly environment. The staff go the extra mile to ensure mums needs are catered for and having had a spell in hospital she couldn’t wait to get out and be back “home” again. The manager and staff keep me up to date with how mum is on a regular basis which as I don’t live locally are essential and I never feel that anything is too much trouble. I cannot recommend Kingston House enough!
Thanks to the amazing support and care that he has received, my dad has been extremely calm and comfortable at Kingston House since arriving for emergency respite care a few weeks ago. Everyone has been incredibly kind and supportive and we couldn't be more grateful to the lovely staff for all their help.
Mum has been in four weeks and so far so good. The staff are all very kind and look after mum well. Visiting access is good even in these difficult times. The food seems to be very good - wine with meals which mum loves!
