My husband was cared for by a team of caring staff at Southdown during the last months of his life. Everyone made us feel very welcome when visiting and the atmosphere was homey. I am grateful to the whole team for taking good care of my husband.
My mother-in-law has lived at Southdown for the past three years, throughout that time she has been very well cared for by the team and despite the progression of her dementia, she is able to feel part of a loving community where staff do their best to stimulate residents and involve them in activities. The team communicates well with families, and make us feel that we are part of the Southdown family. The home is pleasant and clean, food is good, and all of my mother-in-law’s needs are met.
Our Mum was given end of life care at Southdown Nursing Home. We were impressed with the efforts made to care for her whilst she was there, particularly the pain control for her condition which was treated appropriately as it progressed. Her needs were well met by the team of kind and helpful nursing and support staff and her room was warm and comfortable. The whole establishment has a homely atmosphere. The choice and quality of the food provided was also excellent. We visited daily and could see how well the other residents, who were more mobile than our mum, benefitted from the various activities organised in the day room. The nurses were very caring, professional, approachable and responsive to any questions we had. They had a bright, happy manner and treated Mum with dignity and respect. Even the laundry and cleaning staff always knocked on the door before entering and had a smile for Mum, which brought a smile to her face too. We wish Southdown Nursing Home well for the future.
My mother spent the last five years of her life being well looked after at Southdown Nursing Home. The staff impressed me as being genuinely caring people, with this being true of the staff at all levels, including the management, registered nurses, carers and support staff. Back in 2014, I was struggling to cope with looking after my mother at home, but I was also struggling to find a care home that I had sufficient confidence in to trust with my mother's care. I will always remain grateful to Southdown for coming to my rescue at that difficult time and allowing me to carry on living my life safe in the knowledge that, in between my frequent visits to see her, my mother was in safe hands.
