View Full Details of Carrickstone House Care HomeMy mother-in-law was admitted to Carrickstone, Balloch unit, directly from hospital at the beginning of August. Our family had no experience of care homes. The staff in the Balloch unit; management, doctor, nurses, carers and ancillary staff, did everything possible to make a difficult time, easier for everyone. From day one, my mother-in-law was treated with compassion and respect. She was made to feel loved and cared for by this fantastic group of people. She passed away peacefully and with dignity on the 8th of October. Staff members attended her funeral service. It is impossible to explain just how grateful we are to this amazing group of people. Although it was for a relatively short time, we were members of what felt like a loving extended family. Thank you all.
My father-in-law was in Carrickstone Care Home for a few months up until he passed away on 25th September 2023. From the manager to the nursing staff and carers we cannot fault his care. Very professional service, but also caring and personal to our father/father-in-law. He was in the Eastfield Unit and it was always very clean and well maintained. The staff treated us like family and could joke with him, as he had a good sense of humour even when being grumpy. We were treated with such respect before and after his passing, with staff members coming to say their goodbyes. Thank you all at Carrickstone.
Mum is well looked after and has been in good spirits and good health lately. Her room is clean and when visiting the team are caring and attentive. Engagement and approvals are expedient and empathetic and I’m kept up to date with things going on in the care home regularly.
We feel so lucky to have our mum cared for in the Eastfield Wing of Carrickstone House Care Home. A year ago we had never heard of this care home but my mum was admitted through the NHS offsite program as we were looking for permanent care and we decided to keep her here. Our mum is 93 with dementia so we needed a home with a high level of care and we don't think we could have found better than here. The nursing and care staff are unbelievably kind and patient with the residents. Even when they don't know we can hear or see them, their kindness and patience shine through. We find their communication excellent and when things happen they call and tell you. One thing of particular note is the cleanliness of the place. There is almost continuously a cleaning program place being undertaken with the cleaners and their trolleys roaming the corridors. They do an excellent job. Thanks to all the staff who have given my mum such an outstanding level of care.
My mum has been a resident in Carrickstone Care Home for six months. She has been treated really well during that time. All carers and nurses are kind and considerate to my mum. They have taken the time to get to know my mum really well and are always able to answer any questions we ask. As a regular visitor, I am made to feel really welcome by all staff including, amongst others, office staff, activities staff, catering staff, cleaning staff, nurses, carers and also the management staff. I found it really hard to take the decision to place my mum into a care home. However, it is of great consolation to me to know my mum is being treated with kindness.
We are delighted with the care my mum is receiving from Carrickstone House Care Home. The staff are always so lovely with our mum. Her room is always spotless and my mum always looks nice and clean. No complaints! They really do take a large weight off our shoulders!
Our mum moved from home into Carrickstone House Care Home’s Dullatur wing in October 2020. Her room is beautifully decorated and has a lovely outlook onto the inner courtyard with a patio door and we have enjoyed some sunny afternoon visits there with residents thoughtfully wearing sun hats. The team in the Dullatur wing recognise social groups and supports my mum to connect with the ladies in whose company she is most comfortable. Mum has her hair professionally styled once a week and has her newspaper delivered daily - sometimes she even reads it! A chiropodist visits regularly and Mum often gets a manicure and her nails painted at the activity group. There is a private Facebook page with updates and pictures of activities and outings (where approval has been given) showing the joy and enthusiasm of both residents and caregivers. It is never easy when a family member’s condition causes admission to a care home to be necessary but our mum has settled well with the team who have a genuine affection for her.
The level of genuine care and compassion the staff in Carrickstone House Care Home show to all the residents is just exemplary. I would recommend the home to anyone who wanted to place a parent in care with complete confidence.
I cannot emphasise the quality of care my dad received in the Balloch wing of Carrickstone House Care Home. The staff are professional caring and friendly. Beginning with entering the home we as a family were cared for. Nothing was too much bother. All staff whether nursing, ancillary or auxiliary cared. This was obvious by the cleanliness of the home to the relaxed demeanour of the other patients reflecting their sense of being looked after by exceptional people who loved their job. Congratulations Carrickstone and many, many thanks.
Pleased with all care my aunt receives and is well looked after in this lovely care home. Lovely staff and management keep me well informed as to her welfare at all times and are courteous with all guests on visiting.
Excellent care provided for my mother, this in turn gives the family confidence that our mother is being well looked after. The staff are so caring and understanding of my mother's needs. Mum tells us how good and plentiful the food is.
My wife is very well cared for by everyone and I am treated as one of the family when I visit, she is always very well dressed when l visit and the carer has taken care and time to do the best for her. There is a very good atmosphere in the home due to the attention given to everything by the staff.
Mum has been in Carrickstone Care Home, Dullatur Unit since September 2020. In the first year of the Covid outbreak, it was hard for everyone but we were able to see Mum through the window and with the help of the carers/nurses they were able to connect us to Mum on her phone and also video calls. We have moved on now and we are able to move about the home more freely. She is able to get out and meet her friends and family. Mum is a very sociable person and is able to participate in many of the activities which I am also made very welcome at. From entering the home I am made so welcome by every member of staff. Mum is treated with great respect for her 94 years and is thriving on the excellent care. All the Covid jabs are given out and also a chiropodist, doctor, hairdresser, dentist and optician are regular visitors to the home.
I am very pleased with the service and care my mum receives. The entertainment is excellent as my mum loves this part of her care. All the staff are all very nice and caring for my mum. I think the favourite part of my mum's care is when they take her out for trips to local garden centres.
First-class care. The staff are outstanding in the care they give, the activities they provide and in the happy ethos they create. My mum is very happy and settled in the Eastfield Wing. I observe the warm relationships she has with staff and that is heartwarming.
The only failing is the laundry. The clothes are not ironed properly or possibly are not hung or time is taken to put the clothes away in a way that they are creased when being taken out to wear. All my mother's clothes are labelled and frequently clothes appear that are not hers.
My partner is very confused and has mobility problems but the staff are incredible with patience and understanding, they sit and chat when they can and try to bring him out of himself. The activity girls go out of their way to try and include him, although he can be quite stubborn but a little bit of encouragement goes a long way.
Myself and brother are probably in a very unusual situation with my mum and dad who are residents in Carrickstone House Care Home, Dad in Dullatur and Mum in Westerwood. Since they have been residents the staff have been amazing in their understanding of their needs, conditions and what settles them. My dad is a very anxious person who reacts to certain situations however, the staff are so good with him that he settles down when he's back in the unit, also, staff deal with his anxiousness very well which means we don't worry as much as we used to. Mum has settled well into Westerwood which is a relief for us, staff are amazing with her, she's always up dancing which is a much-welcomed surprise as she was not great before being admitted to Carrickstone. Staff in both units are very aware of any changes and do their best to get to the bottom of it to get it treated. Staff are very quick on contacting us to discuss and offer their expert advice. I must emphasise that staff have been so supportive to us.
My mum was very wary of going into the care home, but all the caregivers and staff made her feel very welcome. They also were on hand to answer any questions that my family had. My mum has only been in the care home for a few months, but she has settled in well. Now the activities have restarted after Covid, my mum has engaged more with the staff.
Personally, I have found the staff in Westerwood unit to be kind and compassionate. They work hard and demonstrate great skills when dealing with the challenges dementia can often bring. Administration staff are always very helpful when we need help with dealing with finances. I feel there is good communication and I am well informed.
