View Full Details of Abbeyfield Bradbury HouseMy mother-in-law was at Bradbury House for just over four years. In that time she enjoyed the company and activities. Latterly she enjoyed her room and the views. The staff are professional and always treated her with love and respect. During her final weeks, we could not have asked for more and her wish was to remain there where she felt safe and loved to the end.
Abbeyfield Bradbury House is a very caring and comfortable care home. The staff are friendly and approachable and provide excellent food/drinks and interesting and varied activities. The new manager started June/July 2024 has yet not introduced herself to residents' close family despite having many opportunities to do so (open afternoons/family events). Overall very happy with the care home.
I cannot speak too highly of how caring and thorough the staff at Bradbury House were in everything they did for my husband. I always thought we would be together until the last days, so it was very hard to let him be cared for by someone else. Bradbury House is small and very personal. Carers and management all looked after him with affection and respect, and they watched out for me too. They were especially caring in his last few months when he was bedbound and hardly able to move or feed himself. The evening he died, the staff on duty took all the difficult tasks off my shoulders so that I could just sit and be with him. Bradbury House itself is light and airy and a really pleasant place to be. The food, which is all freshly cooked, is homely, tasty and healthy, and served with grace and friendly help where needed. Thank you, too, to the medical staff who look after residents. I don't know how our family would have gotten through the last year of his life without you all.
Excellent care provided to my mum. Mum passed at the care home in August 2023 following an 18-month period in the care home. From the time she arrived from her home 350 miles away (to be closer to family), to the day she passed, the staff from management to carers and cooks, all treated Mum with such kindness and dignity that I will be forever grateful to them all. Mum was well looked after, and cared for in such a manner, she was always happy and very peaceful to the minute she breathed her last breath. Thank you Bradbury House.
Dad lived at Bradbury House for three years. He was well supported and respected by carers, cleaners and kitchen staff alike and was treated with care and good humour. We were always so impressed by how well and how quickly everyone got to know him and how interested everyone was in him. He had lovely friends and loved to spend time in the garden and little summer house. It is a homely, happy place where the food is excellent and all is clean. His room was spacious and clean. We took him out when we could but we also visited him in the home frequently and spent a lot of time in Bradbury House where we were always welcomed. We even had a birthday party for him in the day room. In the final months and the very difficult final weeks and days, Dad received superb care with boundless compassion and tenderness. They kept us informed all the time and even looked after members of the family who were with Dad during these times.
I was very pleased with the care given by the home. The carers were always very helpful and gave support to both the resident and their family. The kitchen staff helped when a resident had any dietary requirements. The cleaners always kept the residents room and public areas spotless. If ever any of my family and friends needed to go into a care home, I would recommend Bradbury House to them. The care they give is exemplary.
I was always thoroughly impressed with every aspect of Bradbury House. The staff were always polite and caring and very welcoming when I visited. They all showed great respect of kindness to my mum and I felt confident she was always in good hands and well cared for. In her final weeks, days and hours the staff were outstanding and I couldn't praise them enough!
All the staff cared for and supported her in her last, final and difficult days in an excellent way. Thank you.
We are extremely happy with the care provision at Bradbury House. The staff are excellent and caring with the residents and know everyone in person and their care needs. It is a real home from home and it is great to know that should any emergency happen, there would be an immediate and appropriate response. We can't fault the care from our mum.
Bradbury House and its wonderful staff gave my mum a caring, loving, warm, friendly and safe environment. Mum spent her final years at Bradbury House and despite never wanting to go into a residential environment, following a fall, she moved into Bradbury House in January 2018. Mum never looked back. I can never thank the staff enough for the kindness, the fun, the laughter, the caring, wonderful warm environment, they all provided for her in her final years. Mum and her family became part of the Bradbury House family and for my mum, It provided all of the above emotional and physical care but also importantly, friendship and company, both of which had been missing as Mum's isolation, created by dementia, slowly progressed. Thank you Bradbury House.
Bradbury House is a very friendly and professionally run care home, with excellent staff run in a very positive and upbeat manner. Despite Covid challenges, the staff have always shown great care and respect for our mother and given her the best experience. The staff have also been of great support and comfort to ourselves in this difficult year, with none of our requests being of too much trouble. A well run, friendly establishment and comes extremely highly recommended from ourselves.
Bradbury House is located in a beautiful part of Cumbria with stunning views of the Wasdale Valley. It is small enough to remain personal and the staff appear totally committed to the care of their residents. The single en-suite rooms are spacious and residents are encouraged to make them as homely as they wish. Bradbury House provides the best support for the extra care Mum needs whilst encouraging her independence. This tailored care package also allows Mum the freedom to take exercise and enjoy the garden grounds which, for an active lady, has been such a bonus. Every effort is made to provide group activities and entertainment and there is always time allowed for residents to sit together and put the world to rights. It has been challenging during Covid-19, but for our family, we have made the very best of everything Bradbury House has come up with to continue a close connection with our Mum.
Mum moved into Bradbury House in February 2020 and the lockdown restrictions on visiting care home residents have meant that we have been unable to visit her as often as we had intended. It is a huge relief for us to know that she is being looked after so well by the manager and her excellent team. We are involved in decisions to do with Mum’s care and reassuringly we are encouraged to contact the manager or her deputies if we have concerns. The staff all know who Mum is and are open to discussing care issues and flexible in looking for ways that concerns can be addressed. The food is all cooked on-site and I love the way that the dining room is arranged with small tables that are properly set up with tablecloths etc. Pre-lockdown there were a varied range of activities carried out by people from outside the home and hopefully in time, these will be able to resume. In the meantime, the staff do their best to provide activities and entertainment. I would definitely recommend Bradbury House.
My mother lived happily at Bradbury House for five years. She was looked after extremely well by all the staff, particularly in the later years as her hearing and sight deteriorated. She enjoyed the meals, in particular, the homemade soup. The manager made Mum feel part of the 'family' in her home at Bradbury House.
This care home, staff and particularly the manager are wonderful. My relative who had limited family was accepted into the large extended, caring family of Bradbury House. They looked after her every need however complex. She was respected, loved and looked after. In the latter years of living in her own home and much loved but isolated environment, she had had to develop a strong, independent nature, coping on her own without everyday company. It was a massive decision to move into Bradbury House but from the start, she was given love, care, comfort and contentment without losing her autonomy or independence. She was very happy to be there and full of praise for the people who looked after her. I can not praise this home and it's manager highly enough. They go over and above their call of duty to make a resident feel respected, safe and most of all happy to be there. Thank you so much.
All staff are very welcoming, friendly and helpful to visitors and residents alike. Always clean and smells fresh. Food choices and good food. Regular drinks. Entertainment and trips quite frequently.
This review is on behalf of my mother, who passed away this year. Mum was very happy in Bradbury, made lots of friends and enjoyed her time there. We were always made very welcome when we visited - it has a very homely feel, which is why we chose it. The staff were always friendly and helpful.
My father was a resident at Bradbury House for 18 months. In this time he received excellent care and support for his varied needs. The staff were friendly, caring, and respectful of his dignity and his personality. Activities were available for him to choose to join in or not, and the setting and atmosphere of the home were just what he needed. At the end of his life, he received wonderful care, and the family were supported sensitively by the staff at all levels.
