Can not fault the care, compassion and facilities of Northbourne. My gran had Alzheimer's and was a resident here and they treated her with such care and dignity. Not only that they were a great support to the family. Highly recommend.
My mother came to live at Northbourne in June 2021. It was near the end of COVID. Once she had settled in, which didn't take long, it began to feel like a home from home. Lots of activities and good food have improved her life as she had started to give up. The staff and management of the home are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a friendly, safe place for your loved one, this is the place. I have experience of other homes and none are as good as Northbourne. It has a real homely feel.
Mum was cared for by the exceptional staff at Northbourne in Gateshead. She was there for seventeen months, was suffering from Alzheimer's, was blind and very frail. The staff treated her with humanity, kindness, respect and dignity. Nothing was too much trouble for them and Mam always felt loved and secure. She had palliative care in her final days and we stayed with her day and night until she slipped away peacefully in Northbourne, surrounded by the people she loved. We were all treated like family. Northbourne is a fantastic community, I cannot praise the staff enough. In Mam's final hours, two members of staff, in particular, were brilliant. Thank you so much for caring for our precious mother so well and supporting us through this difficult time. You are all stars.
Mam is 92 and had been living in her own home with support from my dedicated sister and carers. She has Alzheimer's, is partially blind and has mobility issues. After being hospitalised after a fall, she went to live at Northbourne in August 2022. We chose the home carefully after visits to other homes. The manager and staff are professional and kind and treat residents like family. There are always fun activities organised, and the staff are exemplary. It is an outstanding place with staff who go above and beyond with tons of Geordie warmth and humour thrown in. We know our precious Mam is safe and in good hands.
My father has been a resident at Northbourne Care Home since January 2020. He recently was admitted to hospital with what turned out to be sepsis. He was discharged after about ten days, recovered from the sepsis but very frail, poorly and with a painful bedsore. From the moment he returned to Northbourne his actual care has been of the highest standard, staff obtaining, without delay, a special mattress to improve his comfort. He has been encouraged to return to a healthy diet and to drink regularly. Each day, my dad has grown stronger and his mobility is beginning to return. Thank you Northbourne for the care, kindness and encouragement given to Dad.
Mam has been at Northbourne for two years now. The staff have been through some tough times with the Covid outbreak at the home. They have kept the family informed of everything that has been happening within the home, and more importantly, with Mam. The home itself is clean. The staff are friendly and treat Mam with respect. The only disappointment is that her memory book with sentimental family photos etc and a framed family photograph is missing from her belongings. I would recommend Northbourne to anyone.
When I had to find a home for my mum I contacted several, I was really impressed with my first contact with the manager and other staff I spoke to. They really seemed to care about my mum and recognised how difficult it was for us as a family, this has continued throughout my mum's stay. The staff are excellent, friendly and supportive of my mum, who although she has Dementia is still fit and quite able to get around. My mum is at a stage in her illness where she can be difficult at times but the staff are great with her, always trying to settle her down and make her laugh (which she does). If there are any concerns they contact me immediately, which is very reassuring, they work with me and other healthcare organisations to ensure my mum is fit and as happy as possible. COVID has undoubtedly placed a huge strain on everyone, but I have never heard a complaint or seen any reduction in the care my mum receives. I can't speak highly enough of the staff and would recommend Northbourne.
My mam has been a resident with Northbourne for four years in March. She was here before Covid, and her care was excellent with great activities and caring staff. When Covid came, the home was excellent with the care they gave during this time, making where possible we were allowed to see Mam, in person, behind screens or vis Skype. They have been excellent in maintaining the standard of care that is expected. The staff have put their health and safety on the line for us.
Lovely staff with a genuine caring attitude. The home is very clean and always smells fresh. Activities have been limited recently but hopefully will now be able to expand in both frequency and variety. Good management with frequent contact with loved ones.
Mum, who has dementia, has been at Northbourne for nearly a year and has settled in well. She is well looked after and treated with respect and dignity. Staff are friendly, approachable, and caring. The Covid pandemic prevailing over this time has undoubtedly placed huge stresses on the care sector and greatly skewed the experience for relatives, but the staff have done their best to keep residents happy and stimulated with a programme of activities. The experienced management are always happy to discuss individual needs and concerns. Medical visits are arranged as needed. The meals are all home-cooked and varied. Covid regulations, whilst onerous to everyone, have been administered responsibly as best as could be interpreted under the circumstances. Overall, I am pleased with the care my mother is receiving and can recommend Northbourne as a good place to consider for residential care.
This care home is one of the best I have ever known. From the time my mother-in-law became resident - nearly 4 years ago - she has been so well looked after we cannot fault the care at all. The staff are outstanding, the manager is professional and empathetic, the environment is clean, comfortable and homely and during Covid, she has been well cared for in our absence. Thank you.
My dad is happy with the staff and the accommodation provided. Although in lockdown due to covid19, I have been informed of any problems or changes in procedures, eg being able to visit in a safe environment. Dad's happiness and safety are paramount, and I can relax in the thought that the necessities are provided by the staff at Northbourne.
Love the home and Mam is very settled. Lots to do and keep everyone occupied. The choir is excellent. The only problem is her hearing aids are missing quite often. She is unable to hear anything without them. As staff wearing masks at the moment she will not be able to lip read.
I can't describe how much I appreciate this care home and it's staff. They are all truly amazing.
Northbourne care home constantly provides mam a safe, secure and caring environment. Mam is always clean and tidy when I visit. the staff are around if I have any questions regarding mam. There is always a positive family feel when I visit. The staff constantly engage with residents.
My mother has been at Northbourne for two-and-a-half years and during that time, the treatment and care given to her has been exemplary. The staff always treat her with dignity and respect. Medical appointments are made for her promptly when required. Residents are encouraged to partake in the daily activities. Some staff go the extra mile by transporting her to social events or bespoke yoga lessons. Northbourne is an outstanding care home.
Caring staff and good care.
I know my father-in-law is happy living here and is well cared for. The staff are very caring and nothing is a problem.
I would just like to say that placing my Mum in this Care home was the worst decision I have ever made. She was only in approximately 6 weeks. I would not recommend this home to anyone who cares for their loved ones. There are many reasons for this which I cannot go into after taking legal advice. If thinking about it, think twice.
