View Full Details of Katherine House'Mum moved in to Katherine House six weeks ago. Initially it was hard to differentiate between those members of staff who look after the residents and those who look after the building, as every individual we have met, without exception, is lovely with the residents. It's as if everyone is a care professional to the highest standard, regardless of the job they are actually employed to do. The enthusiastic management team could not have done more to make us feel comfortable, informed and welcome from the first contact. Mum is delighted with the excellent activities on offer, she has made friends, loves the staff and raves about the delicious food and all the care and kindness she receives. As a result, her move into residential care does not feel like 'the end bit' but the start of the next chapter of her life, which at 95 was completely unexpected and really rather wonderful. We feel very privileged that there was a place for Mum at Katherine House and to us, so far it is perfect.'
Katherine House is a very special community of people in a lovely building, tucked away from the world. The staff are wonderful and make everyone feel at home, guests as well as residents. Everything feels very relaxed but the staff seem to be keeping a careful eye on what goes on and are attentive to the residents needs. Quite outstanding.
My mum passed away recently whilst at Katherine House where she had lived since March 2020. From all the trials and tribulations of COVID, through to the inevitable difficulties she faced in her last few weeks alive, the staff at Katherine House, without exception, were wonderful. The love, care, dignity and compassion they have all shown Mum has been a joy and source of great reassurance and comfort to all the family, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the home.
Golden days at Katherine House; my brother and I chose this care home in front of several others in September 2023. My mother was very pleased with our choice and loved the home for its wonderful staff, beautiful quiet setting and friendly environment. Her last days were spent there and we feel very fortunate in finding such a good place.
My father moved to Katherine House after it became clear he could no longer manage in his independent living flat. Katherine House proved to be an extremely good choice. The care he received was outstanding and the staff were all very friendly and caring and nothing was ever too much trouble. It gave the family peace of mind knowing he was being well cared for and all his medical needs were being taken care of. The catering was excellent and there was a very good programme of events and activities for the residents to participate in. Katherine House itself is in a lovely location and my father had a very nice room with patio doors overlooking greenery. I would not hesitate to recommend Katherine House to prospective residents.
Mum was resident at Griffiths House for a number of years and words are woefully inadequate to express my love and reverence for this organisation and the absolutely amazing people who together to make this the place for your nearest and dearest. My dear mother has just passed and although I have regrets none of them is our decision to choose Katherine and Griffiths Houses for her care.
Having worked in the care sector for seven years, I chose Katherine House for my mum to move into two years ago. It was the right choice - Mum is very happy and is well cared for, in a tailored manner. I've recommended Katherine House to many friends due to its caring and fun culture, and its happy team who share a passion for excellence.
A friend recommended Katherine House to me when my father needed respite. It's very reassuring to know that your loved one is cared for by people who really do care. At Katherine House, everyone cares and you see the care shining through in the warm, friendly, family atmosphere. I highly recommend Katherine House to others now.
My mother has lived at Katherine House for almost six years. The home is a fabulous place, full of love and laughter with incredible carers who always go above and beyond to help the residents. Mum is so happy living here. Everyone is welcomed with a smile and I cannot speak highly enough of the commitment and kindness of everyone, including the events team who organise such fabulous trips and activities for the residents. My sister and I feel so grateful to have found such a wonderful home for Mum. Thank you.
Katherine House is in an excellent location with well-maintained grounds and a nice view. Inside the modern building is also in excellent condition and good decorative order. My mother's room was a good size, with plenty of light and a lovely view with an en suite shower room (alongside access to baths if needed) that she was able to use as it catered for her mobility issues. Staff were always caring, pleasant, prompt, polite and very friendly to my Mother and all the family. A wide range of activities in and out of the home are laid on, socialising is encouraged and there are some very nice places to sit in and outside the home. I could not have hoped for a better home for my mother and would not hesitate to recommend Katherine House to others.
All staff are friendly and professional. They show great care to my mother and are very sympathetic to her needs as these have increased over this last year. The Well being staff are amazing and provide a wide range of activities. Residents are able to visit places of interest and concerts. There are also concerts etc within the home for those unable to leave the site. The home is truly a gem.
The staff are all so kind and really treat the residents with care and respect, each resident is treated as an individual. Time is taken to understand their personality and their needs. Placing your relative in a care home is not an easy choice, but Katherine House made the whole process much easier both for the resident and relatives. Visiting feels like you are entering a family that cares, and having the grounds to walk in is wonderful. Outings and entertainment are well thought out, keeping the residents active and entertained. Yes, there have been a few minor hiccups, but these would have occurred anywhere, and they have been treated proactively and resolved quickly. All in all, very happy with the whole set-up, and most importantly, I trust them to have the resident's best interests in mind.
We chose Katherine House because it offered Mum activities as well as the care and support she needed. The activity team has a diverse and imaginative programme of activities in which Mum can participate in or just be quiet if she wishes. They also do trips out in their minibus which is good for Mum because it gets her outside seeing different things and people. All staff have been caring and supportive of Mum, being mindful of her wishes and dignity. They see her as a person rather than a resident. If I have ever raised a question or query, staff have always acted upon it. The home is clean, modern and airy. Meal times are companionable and sociable. Mum has a phone in her room, a TV, and her own belongings. I am really grateful we found Katherine House.
Mum has been a resident for almost a year and during that time Katherine House staff have been loving, kind, patient, attentive, good fun and extremely hard working. Having been widowed and then trying to live independently, Mum was exhausted, unwell, lonely and had lost all sense of the shape of a normal day, with sleep and mealtimes all over the place. It has taken the best part of this year but she is now much better, with improved health and sleep, engaging in activities provided and being interested in much more than she was. I must particularly praise the staff's attention to skin health, photographing anything of concern and monitoring closely and moisturising regularly. There is also excellent communication, and clear lines of responsibility so that issues and messages don't get missed. It has been very hard for all of us losing our Dad/Mum's husband of 58 years, and Katherine House has made every effort to help her life be as good as it can be. Thank you all very much.
Last week I joined the summer party in the grounds of Katherine and Griffiths House - this year the theme being An Afternoon at The Circus. I was unable to make lunch, but joined my former neighbour just as it was ending - an excellent spread served outdoors but under the gazebo. Pudding was my neighbour's favourite - tiramisu! We then had almost two hours of wonderful entertainment with everyone seated/turned around and easily able to enjoy the fun. There were two acts - a talented and very balletic performer on a rigid 'circus ring', and then 3 excellent dancers, all performing to lively circus and Old Time music. It was clear the Circus Afternoon would have required months of planning and logistical considerations. Many staff were dressed as clowns, circus performers and even a couple of Ring Masters - well done all of you. There was a lovely atmosphere, great fun and of course, a tombola! Thank you, everyone - it was a great success.
My Mum had been at a previous care home, but I felt that it wasn't a great fit. This Care Home was a complete contrast. The smaller home style setting suited Mum much better, and the real difference was the staff. I felt that they genuinely cared for Mum and that was a huge comfort over the months, particularly as Mum's dementia worsened. I knew she was safe and warm and that everyone at the home was doing their very best to keep her as well and engaged as possible in the circumstances. Staff sent regular email updates to keep us in the loop with how Mum had been in the week, which was particularly useful for my sister who lives abroad. It was lovely to hear positive stories of Mum interacting with staff and during activities. As Mum entered end of life care, they went out of their way to ensure she didn't need to be moved, and was able to spend her last days peacefully and they really looked after me and my family too at a really difficult time for us.
The carer was assisting my sister with the lavatory and putting on my sister's coat to go for a walk in the garden, another resident was a little bit sick and the phone was ringing. The carer was on their own. They acted in a very calm and professional manner when surrounded by anxious residents and relatives. I now know how to put a coat on my sister without us both getting in a tangle. All the staff are very professional and treat the residents with dignity and respect.
I have been my grandma's carer for 3 and a half years, she is 93 and has been living independently until moving to Katherine House after having a fall and breaking her hip. She is very independent but since the fall, is using a frame to move around so living on her own was out of the question. As a family we spent time researching homes all over Bristol and Bath, it was very disappointing until we came across Kathrine House. The manager was amazing, she gave us all the time we needed when we went for a visit, with a full tour all questions answered. The home is lovely, welcoming, clean and smells fresh, the staff are amazing and everyone is so friendly. The residents are lovely and treated with total respect and the best care. The staff are so caring, giving the residents lots of time and help with anything they need. The food is of great quality. As a family, we are so relaxed knowing my grandma is in such fantastic care. If you're looking for a home definitely visit!
My father recently moved here after suffering a stroke. I cannot begin to explain the support and friendliness displayed from the team during these difficult times. Especially with COVID too! Before Katherine House, my father was in a different care home in another part of the country which doesn’t hold a candle to Katherine House. (Despite being more expensive). They communicate well with family member and include them where possible. Since being at Katherine House my dad has progressed physically in addition to bettering his mental health. The facilities at Katherine House are amazing and they actively try to support beyond basic needs. I will forever be grateful for Katherine House and the team within for helping me get my happy dad back.
Our mother was struggling to live independently in the much-loved family home and no matter how much daily support we put in, she still complained of loneliness, sometimes hunger and often appeared very neglected. We lived at a distance and were constantly worried about her. Our mum has been a resident of Katherine House since the end of February and my brother and I are absolutely delighted with the standard of care that she is receiving and the transformation in her demeanour and appearance. The staff are highly professional and yet Katherine House is still a homely and loving environment. Our mother is clean, smartly dressed and her hair is always beautifully done. She has made a circle of friends and thoroughly enjoys taking part in the social programme. Katherine House has dispelled all the preconceived notions we had of care homes. This is a bright, modern, active and loving place where we can be as much a part of our mother’s care as we choose.
