View Full Details of Appleby Care HomeFrom the beginning my wife has enjoyed her time in Appleby. Her unsolicited statement was "she felt content, safe and praised the care workers." I feel that a happy and home-from-home atmosphere prevails. My wife and I are happy to remain in the care of the staff and providers at this care home.
My mam has found her forever home at Appleby Care Home. We tried another care home in the area first that looked beautiful but it didn't come close to the fantastic level of personal care shown by all the staff at Appleby. Don't want to pick any of the staff out for praise because they all do a fantastic job however, the handyman and the health care assistant are excellent.
After visiting Appleby Care Home a few weeks ago on a scheduled visit and having a very useful, detailed and reassuring one-to-one chat with the manager, I popped in again for a surprise visit on a Sunday afternoon and found Mum in very good spirits. Everyone on duty was cheerful and I felt I had a warm welcome but a safe one too. Mum looked very well cared for and her clothes were neat and clean. The chairs are very comfortable and I really felt like I was visiting Mum at home. We, as a family, are hugely grateful to the whole Appleby team for everything they do for Mum and all the love and care they display to everyone who lives at the home.
My dear husband was in care from November 2021. I was very apprehensive about leaving him in someone else's care as I had cared for him with dementia for six years. From the moment he was there I cannot praise the love and care of the staff. They not only welcomed my husband as family but me also. I was with him every day until he sadly died on 21st November 2022. All the staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble to them, whether I rang day or night asking after him. I miss my husband dreadfully and I miss the chatter and banter of the staff. I would like to thank them all and the manager, for their care. I plan to visit them in the new year to catch up with them. I thoroughly recommend Appleby Care Home if you have a loved one who needs care.
My father-in-law is staying at Appleby Care Home, the staff have been fantastic with him, and watching how they interact with all the residents really does give me such a relief to know he is in the very best of homes. The atmosphere of the home is a very comforting one, home-cooked meals, clean and tidy environment, and attentive staff, you honestly couldn't ask for more. The manager and her team have been amazing throughout his stay and I can't thank them enough. Knowing he is safe, in the best of care really does help our family know they made the right choice for him.
My Dad has been in Appleby Care home since August 2022. From a previous experience when Dad was in a care home for a short period (not Appleby) I have to admit I didn't hold much hope for Dad settling at Appleby Care Home. How wrong was I, from the moment Dad commenced his stay at Appleby, the staff have been absolutely amazing. To know Dad is in safe hands is such a relief, he has settled extremely well and this I know is down to how the staff are with all the residents. I can not thank the manager and her team enough for the support they have given our family, and the care that Dad is receiving. It's been a difficult few months with some of Dad's dementia symptoms, however, I haven't once worried about him as I know he is in the very best of hands. Thank you so much everyone.
My mother is a resident in Appleby Care Home and has become ill and is on end-of-life care. The care, compassion and professionalism of all the staff is wonderful both to Mum and the rest of my family.
Staff are excellent, friendly and work very hard on a daily basis.
My dad has been in Appleby Care Home since May 2021. At first, I was unsure if he would get the best care but as time went on we got to know everyone involved with his care and they really looked after him well. Can not thank them enough. He did enjoy his time here as well.
My mum was here only for a few days receiving end-of-life care, I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the care they gave her, kept us informed with regular updates about medication and changes in her health.
Was in Appleby at the weekend to see Dad. He looked smart, clean, and tidy. Hair cut, nails done, freshly shaven. Just like my "real" Dad. Unfortunately, there really is very little left of my "real" Dad. That said it was a good visit. Nice to see him in his own environment. The staff were their usual welcoming, helpful, caring, friendly selves. Keep up the good work - all at Appleby. And thanks for caring for and looking after my parents.
My mother was a resident from August 2021 to January 2022. There were many instances when we as a family had to intervene regarding my mother's hygiene and poor food and Social Services had to be involved due to one case of neglect. The staff did try hard but seemed to be too busy to do what was necessary for my mother and because she was bedridden this was even more difficult for my mum. The overwhelming impression is a lack of proactive care, things only ever improved if we complained directly to the home.
In three years I have seen a myriad of scenarios carried out with dignity and professionalism.
Thank you to all the team, especially the manager, at Appleby Care Home for looking after my Aunt in a difficult situation. They have addressed every situation concerning my Aunt. Pain, comfort, etc, and treated her with dignity. My Aunt is settled and comfortable thanks to the care the staff provide.
All staff have always been very friendly yet professional. My Dad is well cared for and happy in himself.
My sister-in-law stayed at Appleby Care Home for about 3 weeks as respite. She was well cared for by a team of knowledgeable people who were always kind and compassionate. Her room was rather spartan but if she'd been staying longer, we would have made it feel more homely. I was very happy with the flexibility of the staff and felt appropriate covid precautions were taken.
The manager and her team are remarkable and they handle my Mum with great care and I know at times she can be a handful. I am always informed of any issue that arises and how it has been handled. My mum has been there a number of years now and I have never had any doubts about the staff or the way the home is run. There has always been tight restrictions during covid which I am very happy about. Her room is very comfy and has her personal things around her. Her social worker has confirmed to me that my mum was very happy there on her last visit which was November.
With all the covid it had been difficult to see where my wife is living. However, on one visit my wife was presented dirty and unkempt. Her nails were filthy. She was brought into the waiting area in a dirty stained chair. My wife was later taken to hospital with an infection in her mouth/throat and we were told she might not survive. The nurses stated she arrived at the hospital in a disgusting state. My wife did survive but I was told she had to return. I was eventually allowed to see her room after allegations were made from an anonymous source that she was being shouted at by staff and had been isolated in her room. I must add this has not been substantiated. The room was similar to a police/prison cell. There was nothing at all homely. The manager stated that the family hadn’t brought anything to make it homely! My wife is still there and I’m desperately trying to get her out. All I hear from the manager is how many hours she’s working. Not really what I want to hear.
My Grandmother has been in hospital recently with an infection in her mouth. The doctor believed this could be due to poor hygiene with her dentures. We have been informed that a member of staff has filed a complaint via the whistleblowing policy that my grandmother gets locked in her room for most of the day and when she shouts, the staff shouts back at her. Her room has no homely items and the family was told this is because no one brought anything for her - due to Covid we didn't think this was an option. Had we known we could, this would have been arranged straight away. We would assume her room would still have pictures on the wall etc. but no.
Appleby Care Home are very caring and are very good at putting relatives at ease. My father has settled very quickly and is well cared for. Staff are approachable, friendly and take the stress away from family. The guilt I felt having to put my father into a challenging behaviour unit has gone. I am reassured he is safe and very well cared for with his dementia and behaviour issues. Staff do not get the recognition they deserve - absolutely dedicated staff. Wonderful!
