View Full Details of Crossgate Care HomeWhen my mum first became a resident she had physically challenging aspects to her care but the staff dealt with her brilliantly and now she is very settled and happy. Any issues that I have raised regarding her care have always been dealt with promptly and satisfactorily so I'm very happy with how my mum is being cared for.
When I enter the care home it's always clean and tidy. A lot of residents due to illness need extra care which they get. Some of the time, older residents are tired so they are asleep in the lounge. A lot of the residents, some of the time need extra assistance, like my wife, to care for her from time to time. She sleeps a lot as she is up all night, so when morning comes round she is tired. She enjoys the food, special breakfast time.
I was a bit worried at first as my husband can be quite moody. He does not like the personal care side of it but I have seen a big improvement as time has gone on. All staff are very good with him so he is a bit easier now. He is always very clean and tidy and room is always spotless. I feel a lot better now as I know he is safe as I was finding it difficult at home as I got older so I'm happy now with the way things are.
I am disgusted and disappointed with the care my father got at Crossgates Care Home. Within two weeks he had two infections one on both feet. Due to my father also having diabetes, having sores on his feet was imperative that they were cleaned and strapped. To my disgust he was constantly walking about the home in bare feet, when the staff were challenged they would look up from their phones while sitting in the lounge, saying they had been cleaned. Moreover, when asked for more strapping so we could clean his feet, they would say they had to order more and blame the lack of supply on the pharmacy. Together, they also broke the law by not allowing the family into my father's 4 weekly review, stating the family would not understand the medical jargon. Crossgates have lied which also breaches the NMC code of practice. The lack of care my father received from these people is disgraceful. Due to the lack of care, my father is in hospital and it's not great.
Crossgate provide excellent care for my dad. It is a great environment, with happy, hard-working staff. Cannot fault the facilities. Activities team are great.
The manager and deputy manager is excellent - an outstanding manager. Very lovely service, always patient, keeps her 'cool' and is a very effective leader! The deputy manager seems very caring, lovely manager. The receptionist is always organised, very thorough and a delight to talk to. All nurses, carers, cleaners etc are very caring, very thorough, very kind, all go out of their way to help all! Would be nice if there were three carers and four nurses on each ward - a total of 4 nurses and 12 carers for 64 people/residents. I personally feel two carers per ward is not enough.
The relevant areas need reconsidering, whoever designed them needs a rethink. The difference between 'good' and 'excellent' is too significant. 'Very good' needs to be included. 95% of the staff are excellent and attentive to residents. The home is well organised.
My uncle went into Crossgate Care Home in November 2021. The care he received while he was in was of the highest standard. He was in and out of hospital during his short stay but always looked forward to going ‘home’. I would not hesitate in recommending the care home. So thank you to each and every member of staff for looking after my uncle.
My husband was admitted to Crossgate Care Home in February 2020 and Covid erupted. Unfortunately because of Covid, our visits have been restricted but the staff (unfortunately I don't know many by sight because of masks) have been so kind, considerate and supportive not only to my husband but also to myself. Keeping me constantly updated on anything important.
Personally, I would say that Crossgate Care Home is the best care home in Kilmarnock. Truly vocational staff and great service providers. I have no hesitation in recommending them to any prospective, loving family, wishing the best for their family member! In times when we have to work and rely on others to care for our nearest and dearest in their time of need so we don’t have to worry, Crossgates is the place to trust. Alas, my mum has now passed, but during her time there she was well looked after and well thought of and cared for, the staff became my friends and I trusted them implicitly! Do not hesitate in choosing, it will reassure you and give you peace of mind!
My mum has been a resident in Crossgate Care Home for 22 months. In this time I have found management and staff communication to be open and honest, and very approachable with any concerns that may arise. They are caring, compassionate and very supportive of my mum's needs. Through these difficult Covid times, any incidents have been dealt with efficiently and I have been kept informed. Overall I am more than satisfied with the care my mother is receiving. Having past experience working within the care sector, I know the difficulties staff can encounter, therefore I fully appreciate their help and support.
I have had a connection to this care home since 2012. The home has improved over the years, especially with the activities. Some of the staff are exceptionally kind and caring and I cannot praise them highly enough. I feel quite indebted to them for looking after my dad.
My mum was in Crossgate for respite care for six weeks. In that time she was given the wrong medication, medication at the wrong times, her clothes were lost (and still are) and she was wearing other people's clothing, including underwear. The place is filthy, smells badly and the care does not meet basic needs.
Excellent care. Entertainment staff do a great job. Really appreciate the care given to my mum. Staff are friendly. Establishment is always clean. Mum says food is great. Good job guys.
My husband suffered a stroke in April 2016 and after a short stay in another nursing home, he was admitted to Crossgates Nursing Home. During his time there his general health has improved greatly and every effort has been made to improve his mobility. He is very well cared for physically and socially including a good entertainment programme including two visits home for special occasions. I am sure his health will continue to improve due to the excellent care and attention he receives.
Dad has been in Crossgates for over two years now and the carers, nurses, etc. deal with Dad's needs very well. On the whole, he is happy but sometimes can be challenging as it’s vascular dementia. When he is like that the carers do cope amazingly well. Just listening to the repetitive chats is wearing but they show great patience. They have a great entertainments team who take them out to regular events and will try and cater for all their needs. They do seem to take people that would otherwise be hospitalised for the rest of their illness. We were so pleased to finally get taken to Crossgates after at least three found they could not cope with Dad not sleeping at nights or the fact that he was a ‘walker’. They prefer ones that sit and sleep and don’t cause disruption but unfortunately for quite a large proportion of vascular dementia sufferers that is just not possible. They do an excellent job with very challenging people and it is of great comfort to us that Dad is in such good hands .
As you will see from my opinions below I am very pleased with everything in the care home. My husband has been in Crossgates Nursing Home for two years and I have had no concerns he is so well looked after.
This is the second nursing home my husband has been a resident in. I am most happy with the care given. The activities staff go out of their way to help keep the residents occupied,
