View Full Details of Abbey Wood LodgeMy mum was previously in a great care home, but increasing dementia meant we had to find a more suitable new place. We were concerned that it would be hard to find a placement that matched the standards of her previous home, but we need not have worried. Abbey Wood Lodge has proved to be excellent. A particular strength is the quality of the staff, who all seem to be warm, friendly, professional and competent. I'd highly recommend this establishment.
My mum has just spent two weeks respite care in Abbeywood care home, all members of the team made her feel very welcome, she settled quickly. The room she was allocated overlooked the park, she enjoyed the view, watching the birds in the trees outside her window. The room was very comfortable it was cleaned daily, the home always felt warm and inviting. Mum enjoyed most meals, fish and chips being her favourite. She spoke of how lovely and helpful all the staff were, and was treated with kindness and dignity, throughout her stay, she would be happy to return in the future for further respite care. Myself and family were warmly welcomed when we visited, by management and all members of the team.
My friend moved to Abbey Wood in July this year and the difference in her life has been amazing, she is so contented and has settled in really well. She loves the food and very friendly staff, also the activity program. Myself and my wife visit her twice a week and we are made very welcome. We can't praise it highly enough.
From our initial viewing, we have always been warmly welcomed with cheerful, happy staff. This greeting has been the catalyst for the way staff care for all residents at all times. Nothing is a trouble to anyone, from domestic staff to the manager. A very caring team in a wonderful environment for the vulnerable, sensitive residents, who in their old age, dependent on strangers are given the best care.
My husband's uncle has lived in Abbey Wood Lodge for the last 4 years, during which time it has become his home and the staff his family. They have cared for him and supported him throughout this time. When it became apparent end-of-life care was needed the staff continued to care for him and support us through this process. The kindness shown by all staff has been greatly appreciated and we couldn't praise the home highly enough.
Please don't send your loved ones here. Our experience with this home; Mum was attacked. Multiple safeguarding concerns. Administered incorrect dosage of pills. Poor management/worsening of medical conditions - diabetes/lymphedema/wound care. Failure to preserve dignity. Mum was attacked by another resident, this was never properly addressed with conflicting accounts. The attack led to the deterioration of mum's condition, to which staff advised she was fine and wouldn't remember the attack anyway due to the dementia, this was not the case. Mum developed a tic and was scared someone was trying to hurt/kill her. Management then claimed they could not cope with it and wanted mum out of the care home. The attacker was left on the same floor as mum and other vulnerable residents, in our opinion compromising their safety. On the face of it, the care home appeared to be an ideal place to look after mum, however, our experience was very different.
Abbie Wood Lodge is a very good care home. My gran has been there for almost two years and the care is very good and the carers are lovely and very helpful. The manager is very good, my nan is very happy there and has made many friends.
My mum has been a resident since November, it was a huge and hard decision for our family to make for my mum. But her care she receives is excellent, the staff are so supportive and really personable. We know our mum is safe and all her needs are taken care of.
Since the very beginning, we have felt extremely welcome at Abbey Wood Lodge. It really is the ideal solution for my mother: she is looked after with great care and attention by a very professional team of carers. Thank you!
I cannot speak more highly of my experience of Abbey Wood Lodge. Having known my Mother-in-law for over 35 years now I couldn't be more aware of just how difficult a decision this has been (for the entire family) for her to have to go into care. It really was the best/only option at this stage. The most remarkable and probably the most surprising thing that I have experienced with Abbey Wood has been the support and extraordinary kindness shown to the entire family. It is abundantly obvious that the staff genuinely care about her as a person which is so lovely to see, their interaction with her is remarkable.. but the care and thoughtfulness shown to our family as a whole has made such an enormous difference and the reassurance given to us that such a loved member of our family is not only being 'cared' for but loved is everything. Thanks to all at Abbey Wood you do a remarkable job.
When the time comes for you to find a place in a care home you will in all likelihood visit several different homes and wanting only the very best for your loved one you try to consider everything you possibly can. In our case out of the 8 care homes we considered it was very clear that Abbey Wood Lodge was where we wanted our mum to go. In truth, like many other people in our situation, we didn't want our mum to go into a care home at all but it was obvious that we were at the point at which it was the only safe option. That was 12 months ago now and all I can say is that although it was one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make we are 100% certain that there is no other care home that would/could have offered our mum more genuine love and care. What makes Abbey Wood Lodge so special is the manager and all of the staff..we can't say enough..incredible..and we will forever be in their debt for everything they have done for our mum (and ourselves) at this very difficult time in all our lives.
The home is a lovely place to visit my mum who has been living there for over 18 months now. She is safe and well cared for which is comforting for the family. All staff are friendly and knowledgeable, they understand if mum is having a bad day and always try to make her comfortable. She has options to join in with the activities arranged by the Activities coordinator who is tireless in making mornings/afternoons interesting. When it was Mum's birthday in April, she had a cake beautifully baked by the Chef and we had a lovely little tea party which family members were able to join in. Even staff on their day off came in to wish her happy birthday. I really feel the home is a wonderful community and would highly recommend it.
The staff are amazing and they truly care about the residents. My mum can sometimes have challenging behaviour due to her dementia but they support her with person-centred care and kindness. They come up with individual strategies that Mum responds positively to. The care home environment is spotless and clean and the food is lovely. I felt guilty when Mum had to go into residential care but not anymore as they are caring for her as though she is part of their family. Me and my family will forever be grateful to all the wonderful caring and compassionate staff - much love.
The manager has been extremely supportive in enabling my mother-in-law to have a smooth transition to Abbey Wood Lodge. She and the excellent staff have helped my mother-in-law to settle and adapted to her needs. They are caring and compassionate. My mother-in-law gets involved in all activities and enjoys the company of others facilitated by the staff. Recently the chef made her a birthday cake and staff made a fuss of her. Thank you for going above and beyond.
Warm loverly care home with loads of staff always on hand to assist with anything my gran could need. The management are lovely and always willing to assist with any issues we ever have, and the carers go above and beyond to make sure my gran is as comfortable as she can be, and she has the best time with all the activities provided daily.
We were welcomed by the receptionist and other staff. The activity coordinator had invited us to a father's day afternoon tea. She had gone to great lengths to decorate the room, with balloon displays and appropriate signs, she made personal keepsakes for each father. The food buffet the chef made was delicious and well laid out. On returning my dad to his floor he was greeted by the carers and given a cup of tea. Many thanks.
I would like to pass on a huge thanks to one member of staff in particular on reception on Saturday 1st June. My son and daughter-in-law were bringing my mum and dad's great-grandson to see them, she went out of her way to make this an incredibly pleasurable experience for all of us, thanks once again to that particular staff member.
My Stepdad was only in Abbey Wood Lodge for 13 days before becoming ill and had to be admitted to hospital. During that time, he received very good care from the staff on the top floor, particularly one staff member. Our problem with the home was with the Manager. Due to being so ill and immobile in hospital, my Stepdad obviously deteriorated. The Manager of AWL made the decision to refuse to take him back and then refused to meet with us face-to-face to discuss how to move forward, only changing her mind when we asked about the complaints procedure. One of the reception staff was very stony faced when we went in for the meeting and made us feel uncomfortable when all we were doing was to get my Stepdad the best place for his needs. It was a very upsetting time and we felt that we should have been treated with more understanding and compassion. In summary, I would only recommend this home for people who are guaranteed not to deteriorate to the point where they are more difficult to look after.
I am extremely pleased with all the carers and their caring ways towards the residents and nothing is too much trouble for them. Everybody I have met is really kind and considerate. I love going to see my dad.
Supporting my mother when she fractured a disc in her spine. Accessing hospital and follow-up care. Making her as comfortable as possible during this distressing time. Keeping her spirits up was important as the injury took away her independence from walking in the park and pottering in the garden. I thank those staff who took the time to encourage my mother's recovery.
