View Full Details of Upton Dene Residential and Nursing HomeWe are satisfied that Mum was cared for satisfactory, however an inconsistency in staffs skill set and communication was evident. Mum was treated with dignity at all times. We feel the rooms required some attention in terms of cleanliness, redecorating and upgrades. Improvements were made two fold when the activity's team member joined. Some of the more established staff were first class. Two members of staff were amazing during the night of mums passing.
Mum has been a resident in Upton Dene since January this year. She is like a new woman! She's gone up 2 dress sizes (and is costing me a bloody fortune), could I be happier? Absolutely not!! From the minute you walk in, you are greeted by two members of staff, who always have a smile. The two managers on Mum's floor (the dementia floor), are absolutely amazing, as are all the fabulous carers, far too many to name, but I do have my faves! Obviously, one particular staff member has always been my 'go to' as she was the first person we met, when we turned up, unannounced, to view the facilities. There are daily activities, trips out, entertainment weekly, some of which I've been lucky enough to enjoy with Mum. My only question is, is there room for me?
We were very pleased to be directed towards Upton Dene as a home for my stepmother. As she had not visited it previously, the aesthetics of the home were important to us and we knew they would be to her, initially, as well. It feels like a hotel on arrival and has a large and welcoming plush area which adds to the appeal. She has settled well and we are happy with the care she is receiving there. She has a lovely good-sized room, which she is happy with. We believe they try very hard at Upton Dene to bring activities which stimulate and entertain the residents on a weekly basis, there are plenty of varying things on offer to suit different interests. Sometimes the communication could be improved, but the receptionists send emails to the right department for us and will often respond to questions and queries we may have. We don't live locally and so it does make it more difficult for us as we cannot visit her personally, but we do feel content that she is receiving the attention she needs.
By far the best care home after checking out many for Mum. Dad was also accepted so he could have a decent place to pass and spend his final days. The home is very organised and easy to get updated info on Mum. Staff have been fantastic during Dad's final days and helping Mum settle into a new environment after she had been through a very emotional and traumatic experience. Thank you to you all.
Mum has been a resident for over 12 months during which time I have been very happy with her care and the facilities at Upton Dene which far exceed what I have seen elsewhere. All the staff are friendly, attentive and caring. There is a good routine with plenty of flexibility for individual needs. Activities are varied and of a good standard with plenty of external agencies and individuals for extra interest and stimulation. The gardens are kept beautifully. Meals on the whole are very good and with a little more variety would be excellent. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you to all the wonderful people who work at Upton Dene Care Home. My friend received the best care possible, he was treated with care, compassion and dignity. During his stay, he also enjoyed the fun and laughter along the way in his words. 'They're not staff, they're my friends'.High praise indeed. From the moment you walk through the doors everyone in every position they hold is excellent in all that they do. Once again thank you.
Upton Dene - you've been amazing. Mum initially came to Upton Dene for respite in December 2023. It soon became clear that going home was not going to be an option, and Mum had to move in permanently. It took her a bit to settle in, not being in her own home with her own belongings. However, you allowed her to bring as many of her things as she needed and you were very accommodating, which helped a great deal. Finding somewhere safe, with staff that clearly care is not an easy task. Mum was only with you for just over 6 months, you made her feel happy and cared for. You made her laugh, you encouraged her to join in activities and nothing was too much trouble. I know she thought a lot of the care provided and she thought highly of some of the wonderful carers and nurses. We have been extremely happy and lucky to have found you. The attention and care you gave/showed Mum in the time she was with you was effortless you treated her with dignity and respect and we couldn't have asked for more. Thank you.
The activities leader, with her warm personality, has been very helpful in being a liaison point-of-contact for my parents and me, from the initial viewing to taking up places for them both. This customer-facing role is really vital in what is such an emotional and logistically complex move for both the prospective/new residents and their families. Having the activities leader welcome us in, check that all is going well, help with the room/name tags and generally being a bridge between us and the care and the maintenance staff was just what we needed. Additionally, the maintenance men were also great - providing a fast service in getting pictures put up and a Hi-Fi cabled up properly - supplying some loudspeaker cables that I did not have and was expecting to have to purchase later on. N.B. My rating is based only on these first 2 months and a 'face-value' look on 2 separate visits so far, so can't yet properly rate all the listed aspects (hence using the median ratings in lieu of leaving blank.)
On searching for respite care, Upton Dene was very helpful and made this transition very easy. Dad enjoyed his four weeks of respite care at Upton Dene. Originally staying for two weeks but wanted to stay another two weeks, which was easily accommodated by the home.
My wife stayed with your Upton Dene Care Home for one week respite care from the 5th of February to the 11th of February. She received excellent care and we were very happy with her stay (and have indeed booked her in for a further week's respite from the 1st of April 2024).
A beautiful home for my auntie-in-law's final days. She especially loved the food! The staff went out of their way to help and made my aunt and I very welcome. Thank you.
I found the home to be very good. The staff being very patient despite being under pressure. Answering the 'call bell' can be slow due to demand. Extra staff would make a difference if it can be afforded.
A very unpleasant experience on the nursing floor staff. Not happy or helpful, no communication with family, no menu choice was offered to my dad and often left without a call bell to ring for help. I discharged my dad after 3 months.
I have been in residential care at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home since April 2017, almost seven years. In a few days time, I will celebrate my 87th birthday. The care has kept me in good health, in body and in mind. I am content and happy with my lot. I do not want to be anywhere else. Always clean linen and an excellent express laundry service. The staff are a wonderful team and tolerate my always being late for breakfast. Some I regard as my adopted granddaughters. Food is varied, well-prepared and well-presented. I understand if prawn cocktail and avocado pear are beyond the chef's budget! Overall, more of the same for the next seven years, please.
Very happy with the quality and care at the home.
Mum has resided at Upton Dene care home for over two years due to having Alzheimer's. Mum was very poorly and confused due to her Alzheimer's, Dad's heart attack (Dad was Mum's main carer), and her having three falls where she was hospitalised. Due to the care and understanding of Mum's issues, she seems a lot more settled in her surroundings, and above all, safe! The staff are always friendly and professional, and are all very familiar to Mum now, which is something that Mum really likes. Mum has also made a good friend with one of the other residents, and their companionship seems really positive.
Delighted with the care for my mother. Staff are always responsive and helpful. The staff are also cheerful and willing to engage with residents and visitors. I know my mother is in safe hands.
As a family, we were very pleased with the care provided to my dad during the final period of his life. All of the staff were always attentive, caring and supportive to both Dad and the family, at a difficult time. Great dignity and respect were shown. We loved Dad's room. The care home was always bright which made for a happy place. Thanks once again.
My dad came into Upton Dene in March, initially on respite care and is now a permanent resident. Making the decision to place a loved one in a home is never easy, however, the staff at Upton Dene have consistently been very supportive and positive, making the whole situation a lot easier on our family. My dad is well cared for and safe, he is more settled and comfortable in his surroundings. Thank you to the staff who have made a difference, it is appreciated.
The home is always welcoming and the staff helpful and friendly and everywhere looks spotlessly clean. My friend is well cared for night and day and seems happy at Upton Dene and we are very grateful for his care.
