View Full Details of Barchester The FernesI have had a really good experience at The Fernes. Everyone has been incredibly kind and caring, always ready to go the extra mile with a quick response to the buzzer. The facilities are excellent, the room was well appointed and kept very clean with a comfortable bed. The quality of the food good, well cooked and presented and management of my gluten and fish allergies well catered for. The time of the evening meal is too early but is probably dictated by staffing demands. The glass water jug supplied to the bedrooms is too heavy but a plastic one was supplied when asked. A huge thanks for filling in between hospital and second care home near family.
Having visited my sister, who stayed at The Fernes for a while, I already had a favourable opinion of the home. When I arrived, I immediately felt comfortable and welcome. The friendliness of the staff, always with a smile for me, helped me cope with the constant pain I experience for my right hip. I had a day out with my daughter yesterday, and when I began to feel tired, I heard myself saying, 'I think I'd like to go home now'. That about sums it up.
Mum moved into Barchester The Fernes in January 2024, initially for respite care to get over a chest infection. She loved the company so much that she decided to stay! In August, Mum celebrated her 93rd birthday at The Fernes surrounded by her family and friends. The family are so pleased that Mum has settled in so well. It is a huge relief to know that someone is caring for her 24/7! The staff are fantastic, the food is amazing and the activities are the highlight of Mum's day. Thank you to every single member of staff.
All caring staff are brilliant and helpful. The new management are so easy to talk to and very helpful.
The care home is always very clean and tidy. The staff are friendly and professional. The care given to my father is good and he has settled into the care home better than I thought he would. Dad does not really participate in any of the arranged activities but I'm impressed with the efforts of the staff to put on daily activities and events for the residents. The food seems very nice and the variety is good.
Really accomodating getting mum settled in. Lovely building, nice room. Guests treated well. Plenty of activities, meet the manager time, where you could find out about the manager's background and also ask any nagging questions. Staff really friendly and treat you like one of the family.
Overall, we are very happy with the care and support Mum receives, we have had a few issues and these have been sorted out. The staff are excellent, very caring and affectionate with the residents, we are happy that Mum is in such a caring home. Food is excellent - Mum loves it. Our only disappointment is the lack of activities for memory lane, it feels like they are left out, so disappointed with this aspect, not as advertised.
When I first visited Barchester The Fernes, the care home immediately felt right for my mother. The communal rooms are clean, light and airy but still emit a cosy feeling as do the residents' rooms. The two staff members who showed me around the home were friendly but also efficient and knowledgeable of how the facility runs. Subsequently, I have found all staff, whether management, caring or other ancillary staff, to be pleasant, helpful and well-trained. Most importantly, my mother seems to be happy with her room, her carers and all the amenities on offer. She particularly enjoys the varied menus.
October has been a very busy month for my mum, she has had 2 nasty falls and the follow-up by the staff has been fantastic. The care received was above what I expected. I would give The Fernes 10/10.
It was a huge step for us to move our mother into a home. So we were [pleasantly relieved with the smooth transition, and a year later, we couldn't be happier. Mum loves it. I describe it as being like a posh hotel with nurses. Her room is like a little bungalow. Such a pleasant place to visit, with familiar faces. I feel the nurses have really got to know Mum and all her foibles. Yes, it is expensive, but we know we made the right decision.
In my view and experience, The Fernes is not like a care home, to me it's like a 5-star hotel. My parents are very happy and settled at The Fernes. All staff are very attentive and aware of the needs of all the residents. My father has noticed in his time at The Fernes how much the menu options have improved.
We required respite care unexpectedly, The Fernes were extremely accommodating. The whole family were very pleased with the facilities and the friendly atmosphere created by the staff and residents. We were amazed at the improvement in my husband's quick recovery.
Visited this weekend and the atmosphere in the home was fantastic! All residents were engaged and my mum was having the best time. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a care home in the area.
We could not be happier with the care provided by The Fernes. The staff are fantastic and always make us feel that dad is special to them. Lovely rooms and really nice garden area. He really does feel at home there.
My beautiful wife was admitted during July 2022. The staff were welcoming, friendly, good humoured and caring. The room was well proportioned and the overall condition of the home is excellent. During these past 3 months I have experienced professionalism, support and care for my good lady. The managerial staff, along with every level of support staff are all pleasant and helpful at all times. The care my lady is receiving is exactly as I would wish it. The food is well-balanced, varied and tasteful. During this month my lady celebrated her birthday and the home provided space, a generous quantity of food and decorated the venue. All in all, apart from the medical circumstances of her admission, I could not ask for more.
The Ferns is a lovely, caring, homely place. The staff always give 100%. They treat my mum with such love and care. I can sleep better at night knowing my mum is so well looked after. The Ferns has a lovely, fun atmosphere; it's like a hotel.
My mum moved into Barchester The Fernes in April 2022. If I am completely honest it was probably one of my most saddest days thinking I have lost my mum into the care system but how wrong could I have been. It is the most wonderful, homely, caring place she could be. In fact, I would go as far as to say that she is thriving in there and therefore so am I. The environment is just so relaxing and inviting and it feels like home. I can honestly say that the staff are so amazing. They literally bend over backwards to help mum even at difficult times. They also support my dad as he has found this transition for both mum and himself very difficult. The staff are warm and friendly and lend a well needed listening ear when needed without judgement. The entertainment team are superb. I absolutely love visiting when the entertainment is on. In fact, my dad is now part of the entertainment schedule playing his guitar and singing with the residents. This is truly perfect to see and listen to. Thank you.
My mother recently arrived for respite care at The Fernes after several falls. the staff were lovely, kind and helpful at all times. I do feel more could have been done to encourage mum's rehabilitation as her default was to lie down and sleep which did not improve her recovery. She needed some one-to-one encouragement to embrace the care offered rather than being left to decide for herself. The respite was ended at 3 weeks as the room was no longer available.
My husband has mixed dementia and Crohn's disease. All the staff at The Fernes have now enabled two-times one week of respite care for him. They greet him like an old friend and are careful to give him his medication, support and all the care he needs. I feel totally relaxed at being able to leave him in their clean, kindly, happy environment. Thank you, Fernes.
My friend lives in The Fernes at the moment, and he loves it and said the staff are very friendly and welcoming. When I came in to visit, the staff were all smiling, and nothing is too much. I even had a cup of tea and a biscuit.
