View Full Details of Abbeyfield WinnershSince the day, me and my wife visited this center to find out possible places for my great grand aunt, we have been very impressed by the quality of service, staff friendliness and the overall management. The customer relations manager made us feel welcomed during our first visit and explained everything in detail. My aunt's transfer to care home was handled very smoothly without putting us under pressure to show or prove her financial ability to support her stay. Since the move my aunt has settled in well as staff is very caring and friendly. They are very attentive and keep us informed about my aunt. I highly recommend this care home, which is well within the reach for anyone living in Woodley, Wokingham and nearby areas. From my experience I can say that the family members who may have to use the care home will definitely be looked after very well.
It was an absolute relief when we visited Abbeyfield. The Manager was extremely helpful and welcoming, putting us to ease explaining everything and taking us for a tour. They were not rushed for the finance part but only focused on the wellbeing and settling the resident. The staff at Abbeyfield are the highlight of this care home. Whenever I have visited my resident, the staff has always greeted us very well and we see them very helpful, cheerful and active around every resident. The facilities are perfect and the rooms are designed to make the resident feel safe, secure and also in touch with nature. It does not feel claustrophobic as every room as an outlet to outdoors and have a nice view of the garden. The activities are programmed as per the interests and abilities of the resident. Its a lively atmosphere at Abbeyfield and gives the best elderly care to the loved ones.
We chose Abbeyfield for Mum when it became obvious she was no longer able to remain in her bungalow even with carers visiting her. Sadly she was only with them a few weeks before a steep (and unexpected) decline in physical health led to her demise, but in that time their care was faultless. She was given every attention by all the staff, who looked after her so well in her final hours. My brother and sister-in-law were also treated to the same consideration while they were sitting with Mum. The premises felt like a real home, not a clinical residence, and everyone working there is friendly and helpful.
I cannot praise this care home highly enough. From the moment we stepped inside to visit, we felt a really warm atmosphere and observed happy residents. The Customer Relations Manager explained the services, showed us around and did not concentrate on a heavy sales pitch which we appreciated. We observed a full programme of events designed to stimulate and, after moving in, my mother in law told us how lovely the staff were - a high accolade as she was not easy to please! They made progress with walking and personal care which had been near impossible with ourselves. At end of life, the in house nurses looked after her and all the stress of calling out district nurses, doctors and palliative care nurses was taken from us and my mother In law did not have to spend her final days in a hospital. The care she received in this home was second to none and everyone was very supportive of ourselves as well as my mother in law. Our grateful thanks to all the dedicated staff at Abbeyfields, Winnersh.
Incredibly responsive and caring. My mother was only a resident for a short time before she passed, but we noted that there were always plenty of staff around, even at mid-night. Their staff fully understood their duties, and quickly established what care my mother required and how to best deliver it, even when she was being stubborn. Their physios had even got her walking again after she claimed she couldn't. We were very impressed with the full programme of events which helped with mental health. We would highly recommend Abbeyfield Winnersh.
My husband has been residing at Abbeyfield for 2 and a half years. He settled quickly and has been cared for so well by staff who make every effort to understand him and help him cope with all the challenges that he faces. They always contact me quickly if there are any issues and it always feels like a welcoming and cheerful home.
I am so glad that Mum chose Abbeyfield. It is a safe and welcoming environment. The staff have been very accommodating in facilitating video calls so that I can talk with Mum regularly, as I live in the US.
Organising the room, marking of clothes and doing an inventory were all done the day before moving in. Pictures and shelf are all sorted. Mum arrived Friday afternoon December 2024. From this very day, she has been happy, free to walk about. Eating well, letting carers do personal care, showering and hair wash. Any of this was nearly impossible to get her to do. She is enjoying the freedom the social and the quiet rooms.
Abbeyfield was amazing. Our family needed help; Abbeyfield provided it. Professional, medical care for Dad, respite for Mum. Advice with navigating the various authority procedures was extremely helpful. Always available to talk to, forever warm, friendly and empathetic. We are extremely grateful for all they did; thank you.
My mother seems to have settled really well at Winnersh. The only issues I have been contacted about are her eating and one occasion when she was found lying on the floor in her room, thankfully she wasn't injured.
It is hard to face the reality that ageing bodies do not allow one the energy, strength or mobility to continue to care for one's loved one. To find a place of welcome and a group of people that enables me to say, 'these are the people who help me look after you', has been a gateway to our own continuing journey together. My husband is seen as an individual and his needs are met with great respect and dignity. In addition, the staff's care and concern for me have been beyond my expectations. Our sincere thanks to all the staff from management to cleaners. Their dedication, care and concern are always poised to go the extra mile.
The people are lovely and I feel that my mother is very safe there. It is a tough job looking after someone who is challenging and variable however I have only ever seen patience, care and warmth from every member of staff in their dealings with her. My mother says how kind they are in looking after her. They are always ready to chat with me and ensure that I am happy with everything.
The first thing I looked for finding a care home for my partner with Alzheimer's was outdoor space as he is young and energetic. This home has a wonderful huge space outdoors and a door in his room straight into it. I also voiced my worry about him going into rooms or offices, laundry, etc. as he does not take kindly to being told off. They said he can go anywhere as the people living there 'live here' and we only work here. What a wonderful ethic. That is how it is and the most important thing is he's happy living there and says so if I ask him. The best home in our opinion.
My mother was moved from what was supposed to be a nursing home in poor health and unable to do anything for herself. She is now a completely different person and considerately happier. We are all very impressed with all aspects of care from all the members of staff and the home is very welcoming. Moving Mum was a great move.
Abbeyfields felt like an extended family, always welcoming on arrival, always having the time to have a conversation and nothing was too much trouble. All staff had a wonderful attitude to their work and are a credit to their profession. My mother-in-law was treated with respect and dignity, even if her dementia could be challenging at times. Lots of entertainment and activities, staff encouraged everybody to be included, would highly recommend Abbyfields to everyone.
My mother-in-law is very happy at Abbeyfield. The staff are very attentive and look after her in a very considerate and gentle manner. They are happy to answer any questions we may have and take time to explain things.
My husband was given every care, despite his illness, by dedicated, cheerful staff. I was also cared for at a very difficult time. There was always a cup of tea for me!
I transferred my mother from another care home to Abbeyfield Winnersh Care Home so she could be nearer to me. I wish we had moved her sooner, it is the best thing we have done for her. The customer relations manager couldn't have done more to help us, she made the transfer so easy and calm for everyone. Before she only drank from a beaker with a lid but now drinks from a cup, at the old home we were told she was non-weight-bearing but she has now stood up with aids to help her. Can't praise all staff enough.
My husband, who has early onset Alzheimer's Disease, went in for two weeks emergency respite care at Abbeyfield Winnersh. From the start the staff were absolutely fabulous. Always helpful and ready to listen. They kept me fully up to date with how my husband was doing every day. Even afterwards they have said that if I had any questions or needed any help to call them at any time.
Abbeyfield Winnersh is everything we wanted from a care home for our mother and stood out above others we had looked at in the area. The care home is extremely well managed and the staff are all lovely and friendly, genuinely caring about the residents they look after. The standard of care and levels of engagement with the residents is very high, with plenty of opportunities to interact and participate in activities throughout the day. I feel very reassured that my mother is happy and being really well looked after. The meals are of good quality, well-balanced and plentiful. The resident’s personal rooms are comfortable and our mother loves having an access door leading to the gardens, which being within secure grounds allows her freedom and independence to move around without any restriction, whilst safely being monitored at all times. A grateful thank you to all the staff at Abbeyfield for all your help, kindness and continuing care.
