View Full Details of Belong Newcastle-under-LymeWe were undecided as to whether my uncle needed a full-time care placement or whether he was still able to stay at home with carers attending on a regular basis throughout the day. We visited a couple of homes prior to going to visit Belong and the difference between the facilities was as clear as night and day. Belong has a lovely, family feel to it, the staff are all extremely lovely and have made my uncle feel welcome. We initially booked him in for a four-week respite stay and he has settled in so well, both he and I felt that he was better off staying in there full-time. The way the houses are set up is ideal, there is familiarity for dementia sufferers and the staff are always the same, meaning both the residents and the staff get to know each other well which is extremely helpful. A big shout out to all the team in Friarswood House for making my uncle feel so welcome. Instead of feeling like a care home, it feels like a home where care is given.
My dad, who has dementia and is currently bedridden, is staying in Belong for an initial period two-month respite care. We'd reached a crisis point at home as we were unable to meet Dad's needs in between carer visits. The manager and the staff at Belong couldn't have been more helpful in supporting Dad's move into Belong. The household set-up with twelve residents seems to work really well and the staff are really caring. Dad has put on weight and is generally looking much healthier. We have been able to visit Dad whenever we want to, are always welcomed and can see how well Dad is being cared for. It's very difficult watching those you love managing deteriorating health conditions but is reassuring having confidence in the staff and set-up at Belong. I would have no hesitation recommending Belong for continuing care for my dad or for anyone else.
At the age of 93, our dad was unable to live unassisted at home and now requires 24-hour care, lots of complex problems, lung cancer, dementia, eyesight etc. From the start of his journey, the Belong staff in Newcastle have been unbelievable, my initial consultation with their front-of-house manager went a long way to ease any concerns I had about Dad living in a care home. Meeting the care staff that will have day-to-day contact reinforced that this is the right place for Dad. After only a week Dad has settled down in his new surroundings, the care staff have been fantastic, as my dad is prone to collapsing they give him the one-to-one care he requires and encourage Dad to interact, seeing Dad looking well (considering his condition), happy & safe takes a lot of the strain from the family. I can log on to the relatives gateway, which is a bonus for me to have this sort of access. I would highly recommend Belong Newcastle to anyone looking for a first-class care/nursing home.
My dad had been suffering from worsening dementia and in June 2024 we needed to sort out some respite for him whilst his carer went away. We settled on Belong in Newcastle. It was only a short travelling time from us, had been very friendly when we visited and ran a system of 'households' whereby each one had approx 12 residents, of mixed needs, centred around their own kitchen, dining and living area. My dad settled in well for the three weeks respite with us being able to drop in any time of day we wanted and always finding him well cared for and the staff friendly. Unfortunately at the end of his stay, he took a turn and became very unwell. After a 2 day hospital stay he was placed onto an end of life pathway. We asked that he come back to Belong who were very accommodating. His last days at Belong were brilliant. The compassion and care staff showed us and my dad were incredible. He died with his dignity, pain-free with family around him and staff that truly cared. Highly recommend.
The best move I ever made. Food good, bistro good, also service.
I cannot speak too highly of the premises or the experienced, knowledgeable, patient and very helpful staff (all of them).
My mum and dad live here, they love it, it's a brilliant place. I wish they had come to live here sooner. It's peace of mind for us knowing they are safe and well looked after here. They've made loads of friends and the bistro staff are so nice and treat my mum and dad like family. I would highly recommend anyone to live here.
I live in the apartments with my wife. I feel very well supported by the staff. The member of staff on reception helped when my wife was taken poorly last month and sat with us while we waited for an ambulance. Bistro staff are fab. The experience and heritage gallery coordinator and the activities team are marvellous, we are lucky to be living here.
The staff are excellent and the care they give my husband and the other residents in Pooldam is first-class. I am so grateful for all they do.
My dad started at Belong Newcastle on the experience days - that then turned into respite and eventually he moved into the Guildhall House for the last 6 months of his life. The staff are amazing, not one single complaint, he was treated with care and dignity - he thought he was in a hotel for the whole of his stay here. The cleanliness is second to none and the food is 5 stars. We feel as a family, we were very lucky to have this care home on our doorstep.
Overall, my experience is good but we need more staff, especially in the mornings when there is a lot to do. The staff are very nice and helpful but they are very busy.
Our mother is currently enjoying a respite stay at Belong. As a family we are delighted with how well our mother has settled and the care that she is receiving. The staff have been amazing and it has been a great relief to see our mother smiling again and looking so well. Lots of activities are available and our mother has been included in many lovely events that she has been able to recall to us. Belong provides a unique family atmosphere and now our mother is requesting to remain there because she says she has made many friends and that the staff are all so kind to her! This is testament to the efficient management team and dedicated staff members.
My mum, during October, attended the experience day, every day for two weeks. She enjoyed every moment and we are thanking staff for their kindness and support.
My mum resides at Guildhall in Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme. Mum has been here since October 2022. My dad, sister and I are very happy with Mum’s care for such an awful illness - Lewy Body Dementia. The staff at Guildhall look after my mum with respect and dignity. They try and calm my mum down when she gets anxious. We feel confident that all my mum’s needs are met, and we can relax knowing that mum is cared for 24/7.
All staff treat Dad with such dignity. They allow Dad to wander when he wants to. They comfort and humour and when he is anxious, support him or give him space, depending on what he needs at the time. The staff are second to none, I couldn't criticise them.
As a family, having the multi-services that Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme has to offer when you feel like you have no support, has had the most positive impact on not just my uncle, but the family as a whole. After receiving a diagnosis of Alzheimer's, what followed was a loss of independence (driving licence revoked) and a lack of ability to understand the 'fuzzy head' that is now a daily experience. From day 1, Belong initiated its at-home service for transportation to and from the village where the experience day team provided the most meaningful activities for 3 days a week. The benefit was outstanding, and the person-centred approach to my uncle when 'going to work' was far and above what we expected. He now lives in Pooldam with all his new friends, refuses to go home and we have never seen this level of engagement in over a year. Belong Newcastle is the most family-orientated facility that has exceeded all expectations and we're so pleased with the service that we have received.
I found the facilities here very comprehensive. There are always activities and participation available. The staff are very caring, eager to help and there is a lot of interaction between staff and visitors. The catering is also a plus. I have eaten there on a few visits and found the food very tasty and the catering staff very attentive.
Myself and my sister looked at a lot of care homes for Mum and Belong ticked all of the boxes. All of the staff are lovely, and the facilities are brilliant. When Mum is having a good day she absolutely loves going to the games room and having a dance and playing darts and doing jigsaws. She also likes to go to the Bistro for a cappuccino and a cake. Well done Belong you are all doing such an amazing job.
I regularly visit a friend in the dementia part. She has been there since December. Her well-being has really improved. She was going down bank on her house. She is now clean and cheerful. When I visit the staff are so friendly and helpful. I also visit a friend who lives in a flat and I have coffee with her. The coffee and food are great. They also celebrate fundraising days well. Always has a great atmosphere.
I cannot recommend this home enough, my grandad is on Guildhall, and the staff are amazing they go above and beyond for him and he has settled in so well. They have made him feel at home and since moving here I have seen an improvement in his mood.
