View Full Details of Kitwood House Care ResidenceAfter three years of caring for my dad with dementia, decisions had to be made, not just for Dad but for ourselves too, care and nursing homes are a conversation none of us ever wish to have. After visiting many homes, all were only too happy to except Dad, they still didn't seem right, some seemed too loud, the view was not good, some were overwhelmingly busy with staff seemingly confused, and the decor was of a military presence. Until we had the privilege of an invitation to Kitwood House, this place was another level of care, walking through the door and talking to staff that has a passion for care, a passion for cleanliness, and most of all they instantly gained a passion for my dad. Now a resident here since May 2024 and he loves it, nothing is any tougher than leaving a loved one in a care home but "seriously I could not be happier." Food and drink, personal hygiene, medication, and activities are all carried out professionally on a regular schedule, and the staff are simply the best.
What a fantastic summer fair. Lots of activities and staff amazing. Lots of thought went into the day, a good day had by all. Many thanks.
Shortage of staff. Choice of food.
Words cannot describe how happy we are with the care provided at Kitwood House. All the staff are amazing, from housekeeping to management. All very clean and modern rooms and communal areas. Always something going from the pink ladies. Kitwood House is setting the bar for everyone else.
Another fun and fabulous afternoon spent with my father-in-law at Kitwood. The power of music! It’s such a delight to see the happiness on all their faces. It's days like this which are made so much more special and create precious memories which we will always treasure. The Pink Ladies should be renamed the “Pink Angels”. They are so creative, their attention to detail shines through in all they do. They are thoughtful, kind, and caring. They make such a difference to all the residents. They truly are incredible. Not taking anything away from the rest of the team. Kitwood House certainly have a dedicated, loyal and hardworking team which makes Kitwood truly stand out from any other care home. We feel very fortunate we have found our father-in-law a special home where he is cared for so well, where it feels like he's with “real family “ rather than staff doing a job. Each and every one of the team always goes that extra mile to make a difference, nothing is ever too much trouble.
An established organisation's only as good as it's staff. The staff are only as good as the organisation's training. This can only be achieved if it is organised by good management, who not only support, but reward staff in many different ways. My opinion as the relative of a resident who has resided at Kitwood House for 18 months is that the above process is in place at Kitwood House. Relatives only see and know a small portion of the work carried out and are very grateful to nurses, carers, activity staff, housekeeping, administrators, maintenance, manager and others associated with the help, support and care provided to residents at Kitwood House. I conclude by saying from the time you walk into Kitwood House, spend time with your family resident to the time you leave, everyone has a welcome, a smile and a professional approach to work which gives a comfort to both residents and relatives.
Leaving loved ones in a dementia home is an appalling decision to have to make as you entrust them to, however well-recommended, a stranger’s care. I was recommended to Kitwood House by a work colleague. It was the best decision I made. The kindness, care and love my mum and I were shown, all the way through to her death was exceptional. All the staff from the new management team, reception, carers, nurses, entertainment team, cleaners, cooks, laundry and maintenance are extraordinary people.
In the time that my wife has been at Kitwood House, I have never had doubts or concerns about the care that she is receiving. All of the staff are friendly and welcoming. The facilities and decor at the home make it pleasant and comfortable with a modern look. The atmosphere is relaxed which allows residents to get involved in activities if they wish or to occupy themselves with their own interests.
Unfortunately, I have found there to be no stimulation or interaction between the carers and the residents. They do cover their basic needs eg personal care and food and drink but every day the residents just sit there asleep or staring or wandering around. The unit is very quiet and no activities, no interactions or communications. I have also found the food is very poor quality and is usually cold and very small portions and some carers put the cake on the same plate as the main meal. My Dad's room is not cleaned every day and for 3 days running the same sticky spot was still on the floor near his chair and bits were left behind on his chair.
My Mother is a resident at Kitwood House. Since she has moved she is engaging more with the facilities and regularly coming out of her room to the social areas. I am very pleased with the service she is receiving.
When my mum's dementia progressed into the later stages and she was rushed to hospital it was a scary time for mum and the family with covid looking over us. She was moved to Kitwood House, although it is a distance for us to travel it is worth it to see the support the staff gives. She has settled now since arriving in August 2022 and is definitely in a better place as her anxiety has reduced. The activities and other care from the staff are outstanding. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. When we lose our loved ones to dementia it's hard but to know they are cared for takes some pain away.
Can't fault anything to be honest. Lovely people who really give first-class care to my mother. She is a very difficult patient who through care and understanding has settled down to her new life. The food choice is excellent, the rooms are peaceful whilst being practical and the overall facilities are second to none. Unfortunately, she has experience of some totally inappropriate alternatives but Kitwood House and their experience of dementia and Alzheimer's disease is invaluable.
A very clean, well-equipped care home with caring staff who are always available and supportive. The staff ratio to residents is better than experienced in other nursing homes. Activities are also always available with dedicated staff. Very happy with my mother’s care and support.
In the last few months of my husband's life, he was transferred here near to my home after nearly a year in which he was fighting sepsis in a hospital that ignored the fact that he had dementia and other issues and in a care home at the other end of the county. He had been traumatised but felt so safe here at Kitwood House, we saw him laugh and joke again, his mischievous spark alive at last. I could visit him whenever I wanted and was always welcomed by the lovely staff. After a massive final stroke, their kindness and love, in caring for him during his last few days was exceptional. As one staff nurse said 'we are her for both of you'. I was enabled to be with him throughout this time. He was treated with the utmost respect and could not have had better care. Staff were professional, knowledgeable, encouraging and very good at listening! This care home is immaculate.
What a wonderful home Kitwood House is. Putting my husband into care is one of the hardest things I have had to do. The staff are friendly, helpful and, most of all, caring. The rooms are lovely and clean, food is good with plenty of fluids given. I am so pleased my husband got a place here and near to my home, I visit here every day and everyone is so kind. Thank you Kitwood House.
I would like to thank the staff at Kitwood House for looking after my father in such a dignified and caring manner. They offered reassurance that he was safe at such a difficult time in his dementia journey. Although his time there was for only 3 months before he passed away, it was a comforting end with everything done to make his stay happy and relaxed. Thank you.
Unfortunately, this review platform only allows 1000 characters so a detailed review isn't possible. So I will cover my main points. COVID mask policy is very poor, the majority of staff wear masks only over their chin when visitors are expected to cover their mouth and nose. My Mum got a chest infection, confirmed as a severe one by the hospital on admission. The home claimed a doctor visited her on the Tuesday and had no concerns. Even though we were on the emergency contacts myself and my brother weren't notified by the home of Mum being rushed to hospital on the Friday evening. She sadly died the next morning. I visited the home to go through Mum's belongings on the Tuesday following her death. I was appalled to find that all of her belongings had just been thrown into black bin bags, tied up and left on a trolley. No notification was given and I feel that they had no right to do this without our permission. We did complain but were only given limp excuses. Would not recommend to others.
Mum is a new resident and only lived her for 4 weeks. Our overall impression when visiting Mum. The cleanliness and tidiness of Kitness. The members of staff we have spoken to are really friendly and willing to answer any questions or concerns we have. In the short time Mum has been a resident, we have noticed that Mum has settled well and looks a lot happier. She is obviously having her meds regularly as Mum seems to be her normal self.
My dad was in the dementia plus unit from August - November 2022. Overall, we were very happy with his care and support, staff are always polite. The home was always very clean and drinks and snacks were provided for residents. On the board were pictures of residents joining in with activities, Kitwood is very secure.
Excellent care home with the very best of keeping the residents safe, with the best care, very responsive and effective and the manager and other professionals lead the team exceptionally well. Nothing is too much for the team. The home itself is immaculate. They all go above and beyond. Keep the family well informed and always at the end of the phone to answer any concerns. The staff take time to speak to relatives and look after relatives during visits. The manager also goes above and beyond, always making herself available.
