View Full Details of Hawkhurst House PAUI really enjoyed my 2 weeks at Hawkstone, a lovely easy going atmosphere, very needed, the staff are very kind and lovely as well as the others members of staff. The physiotherapist and use of the gym were used in my recovery from a knee replacement and I really benefited from the rest and care - not to mention the cakes!
When our mother first came to stay here it was on a hospital discharge pathway and our initial dealings with the management seemed positive. However as time went on (she was there for 8-9 weeks) the care delivered by the staff was very poor. We recognise that our Mom could at times be difficult, she had quite a few healthcare needs and could at times be depressed. But I don't think this would be unusual when caring for elderly, dementia patients and that training would be in place so the staff would know how to deal with this. Instead the so-called carers told her she was known as Moaning **** and often ignored her buzzer, and were rude and unhelpful and made very little attempt to communicate with her. They put her in incontinence pants instead of assisting her to the toilet and on at least one occasion lowered her mattress all the way to the floor knowing this stopped her getting out of bed (she had some mobility with a walker but couldn't get up off the floor).
Excellent all round. Wonderful care and attention. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff.
I had a very comfortable and pleasant few weeks. My room was large and well equipped with sturdy furniture. The staff were marvelous and willingly gave as much attention as necessary. Visitors were welcome and could help themselves to refreshments, my husband even joined the exercise class! The big central room had a dining area, plenty of comfortable chairs and a large television in the center. The games area was the other end with a long table for games and a jigsaw table. All meals could be taken in your room and there were quite a lot of residents who never appeared. The gym was well equipped. All in all, I enjoyed my stay. Thank you to everybody.
I cannot rate Hawkhurst House PAU highly enough. The carers, nurses and management were excellent in looking after Mum and us as a family. All staff were smiley, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The carers and nurses treated mum with the utmost dignity and kindness. I cannot fault anything they did. Even the cleaners, laundry staff and catering staff were helpful and friendly. Communication with management was excellent. Hawkhurst House PAU is the best and highly recommended.
Excellent care home, more like a beautiful hotel. The rooms are well furnished with all resident's needs. All the staff are very caring and compassionate. The staff spend a great deal of time with the residents. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is first class, freshly cooked each day. The day room is well used by the residents as are the beautiful gardens. Or if you prefer there are some lovely quiet corners where you can go and read a book and relax. The visitors are also catered for. You may join your resident for lunch or there are snacks and tea whenever you feel the need for refreshments.
My mother was discharged from the hospital in April to Hawkhursy House. She was unable to walk due to a fall. The care she received was excellent. The staff were very caring. The room and facilities at the home are extremely good and modern. Unfortunately, he health issues got worse in the last month of her life. In her final days, staff were sitting with her even though she was not aware of them. Very caring.
I would like to say a very big thank you for making my stay at Hawkhurst House so comfortable and caring, not a fault with all the staff. The physiotherapy department was very helpful to me now that I can walk with the sticks with confidence.
Signing in system didn’t work. We noticed no newspapers were distributed nor the resident was asked if she would want a newspaper. Other than that the home seemed OK and provides good care. Our friend seemed reasonably happy and well cared for.
Apart from 2 males (I think it was two unless the same person does day and night shift) the staff were angels. Unfortunately, there were at least two staff short on each day and night shift which often led to longer waits. The food was tasty but they need more fruit and more salad! Also the puddings here most days are custard and a piece of cake! The nursing staff are excellent, one member of staff in particular!
Fantastic staff in all sections, nothing too much trouble for any of them very polite and helpful was very impressed as I have previously work in a care home. The free tea and cakes were a lovely touch as we travelled (me and my sister) for an hour to get to see our brother. Thank you to each and everyone if you.
My husband was released from hospital after spending one month there. He was really down and depressed. It was nice for him to have a room on his own, and the room was comfortable and clean. He was to come and go within the home as he pleased so as to make some friends. The staff did all they could for him to make his stay pleasant. Care was taken looking after him both physically and mentally. Having spent a couple of months with you as was family we felt he was ready to come home. Such an improvement but we still need to keep pushing him to do things. Many thanks for your help.
Truly excellent team, worked to get Mum as fit as possible. Nurses, physios, occupational therapists, social care, management, all determined to support her to achieve her goal of going home. Due to a series of infections it wasn't possible, but she was brilliantly cared for while she was a resident there. All the staff were friendly and helpful and I was made to feel so welcome all the time. The resident is given the tools and loads of support and it is truly up to them how far they can go.
My 91-year-old mother was a resident here for 8 weeks and had outstanding care, the rooms are excellent with all the facilities she needed. The staff were amazing and the food was outstanding, I was extremely grateful and impressed with their professionalism.
Your care home was very welcoming and I was always happy to come and visit with my 10-year-old son. He was always very relaxed and felt he could be himself with his grandad. Your carers always said hello to us and were always polite.
I liked it at Hawkhurst. Everyone was friendly and made me feel safe and cared for. They helped me become more independent again until I could go home again. I am very grateful to all of the staff.
The staff were extremely helpful and kept me well informed. The room was lovely, airy and spacious. All in all, I was greatly satisfied with the nursing home and staff.
My dad who suffered with dementia and underlying health issues was given a place here after a period in hospital and could not return home. It very rapidly turned to end-of-life care. We are relieved he spent his last days in such lovely surroundings, being cared for by wonderful staff. He was shown respect and dignity every step of the way, and nothing was too much trouble. The building is like a nice hotel, with large on-suite rooms, large enough for visitors. There are also several outdoor spaces, including balconies for all to use and a welcome place to gather your thoughts. Sadly my dad wasn't able to take advantage of most that was available, but we are comforted that everything that could be done, was and we are truly grateful for that. It's a place I would happily go myself, but hopefully not yet.
I would like to thank all the team at Hawkhurst House who looked after my mother after being transferred for rehab to Hawkhurst House. Sadly she never recovered from the operation and died on 20th March 2023. The care she recieved under extremely difficult circumstances was fantastic, and communication with both the care team and doctors surgery was exemplary. The facilities were great and clean. Staff were always on hand if needed. Thank you for making a difficult time more acceptable.
Dad was shown kindness and respect by all of the staff and they supported him through a very difficult period. I was always made welcome and any questions or concerns were dealt with quickly. My only concern is the lack of activities provided the television should not be the only option.
